I have a 2004 Tahoe Z71 (5.3) with a 14 inch 5x8 oval Magnaflow muffler (this muffler actually has less drone than the 22 inch Magnaflow it replaced for some reason). I really like the muffler however, I would like a little more sound. I have stock cats.

I have heard the stock cats I have are pretty hi flowing however, I am after more sound in this case. Do you guys think it would make any sense to swap out these factory cats?

I put on magnaflow cats on my 2001, I don't think it mattered over the stock ones. It maybe picked up a little different tone, that's it. I'd just get a louder muffler IMO and leave the stock cats intact, cheaper in the long run.

Like 4mcrue said, unless your stock cats are clogged, don't worry about changing them. Now if you were going to get headers and subsequently an entire new exhaust, then some Hi-flow's would make sense. The easiest way to pick up some more sound would be too either take the cats off entirely or get some longtube headers.
