I have a 2003 GMC 2500HD 6.0L. I dont have emissions so I was wondering if I can take out the cats? I heard the tone gets a lot better. I can get it inspected without cats right, since no emissions. Will the truck run ok with the 02 sensors removed or wont it run proplerly? My engine lights already on and my scanner says low 02 voltage so I dont care if my lights on. Or should I just run 02 simulators? Thanks guys!

    Re: Cat question

Just be prepared for a can of worms to get opened. By federal law you are not allowed to remove any emission control device. You can replace them with say a hi-flow cat or oe style if the factory ones become clogged. Your truck will not pass an inspection with the cats removed just to let you know. You can get a custom tuned computer that will turn the O2 sensors out so that your light will turn off.

That works to. Just make sure you get a tune that will turn the O2 sensors off so that your check engine light is off and it wont throw any codes.

Don't just gut the stock cat, it'll sound like a rock rattling around in a tin can. I would get the inlet and outlet enlarged and stock a piece of pipe put through the inside so you don't get that hollow sound.

    Re: Cat question

Yea thats what i will do, throw a pipe inside the cat and then put it on. And instead of buying a tuner i'm going to do the 02 sensor modification with the spark plug foulers, that way it'll read that everythings ok.

You would benefit a lot more with a tune trust me. You can also have them adjust for any other modifications as well not to mention better fuel mileage if you can keep your foot off the skinny pedal.

Haha, well I just spent money on a Bully Dog programmer, can I still get another tune?

    Re: Cat question

Eh the bully dog is alright but still can not adjust for turning the sensors off. Custom mail order tunes work much better and are sometime cheaper then plug ins like the bully dog
