    2 exhaust ? (5.3 with si/do and dump ?)

Just picked up a 06 Z71 with the 5.3, am going to put an exhaust system on it but have a few questions. I am looking for a deep, raspy tone, almost certain I'm going with the Flowmaster 44.

    1. I was set on true duals for sound alone, but the guy at the local muffler shop (who I trust and has many years of experience) was pretty adamant about not doing this, called Flowmaster, they also said not to do it. Both said: Waste of money, loss of low end, possibly lower mpg, worked on old carb'd trucks but not newer computer controlled fuel injection...makes sense I guess.

With that said, I am trying to find some more clips of a 5.3 with a single in/dual out system preferably with the super 44 - I still want to have that deep, raspy tone.

    2. I either want the exhaust to exit in front or behind the rear tire, off to both sides, pointed down at an angle - is this what is called a "dumped exhaust?"

Thanks, so many different choices for exhaust on a truck! On my jeep I just slapped a borla catback on it and called it a day...

Here's mine. The muffler is a Cherry Bomb Extreme, which I highly recommend. It costs a lot less than a Flowmaster, and is the same design as a 10 series.

Sorry, here's what it looks like

Also, this is not what is considered "dumped." Dumped exhaust empties out under the car/truck.

    Sierra H.O.,

    Is that a single inlet/dual outlet set-up?

That does sound real nice. I like how it pops at the higher RPMs that is what I'm looking to achieve.

    Thanks!

Nothing wrong with true duals if the piping is sized correctly and you have a crossover. For a stock 5.3L, go with 2.25" piping and an H-pipe.

Yup. Cut off the stock muffler, and added a 3" in dual 2.5" out muffler ran to some 3.5 inch stainless tips.

keep the 3" stock pipe, add a 44, dump right after muffler, good sound, cheapest investment.

Personally I like the sound of a tip the best, one 3"-4" will give a louder deeper tone, but if not a tip then open muffler, no pipe at all after the muffler outlet. I'm gonna cut off my muffler, mount them sideways and leave the outlets open and see if my drone finally goes away, if not i'll run pipes out the sides.

'01 5.3L ECSB..3" SI/SO one chamber flowmaster with a turndown..not terribly loud at idle but nasty at high rpm or towing or hauling

Thanks for all the replies...I'm pretty sure I'm going with something like Sierra H/O set-up.

Only thing is I was wondering if anyone has pics of that set-up but with the tips turned/angled down near the rear tires (pics would help!)

Would this do anything for sound?

Look up Overpowered. I think his pipes are at a down angle. He's got the same as me, just he has LT headers too.

I really need to get pics of of hw the exhaust is run on my Sierra, i'm sure a lot of people would like it and could give them ideas. Mine are 3.5" tips exiting at an angle in front of the rear passenger tire, not too loud and sounds really deep and mean.
