My friend is selling me a Flowmaster muffler but him, his dad, nor I know what series it is. Is there a way to figure out what series it is by looking for a number or anything. He told me the only numbers he saw on the muffler was :

    4809812
    5123502
    5351481
    5444197
    6089347

    Maybe he missed something else?

All of those numbers are US Patent numbers for Flowmaster. None are the part number. The part number is usually etched into the outlet side of the muffler body, something like 42443.

You might just be SOL then. Can you get a pic of the muffler, including a pic looking in the inlet/outlet tips? With that, I can at least give you a series estimate.

I can get a picture for you when I get home from work.

Do you think a good muffler shop can tell what series it is?

Apparently the Flowmaster is a 40 series so I hope the shops are right.

Now about installation. Does $160+tax sound reasonable if I already have tips and a muffler and just need to get it installed?

That sounds like a rip-off. I am getting my mufflers installed, with an h-pipe for $80. Mine will be dumped though. Even so, I wouldn't pay $160 for install of one muffler, with tips, if I supplied said muffler and tips. I wouldn't waste the money on the Flowmaster anyway. IIRC, the 40 series is junk. Doesn't flow much more than stock. That is why I got Dynomax Race Bullets. I need to get this 305 out and the 355 in, so I can install my long tubes, and the rest of the exhaust.

I got my flowmaster installed, plus all pipeing and the muffler for $120. But that was dumped before the axle.
Should have just takin the time to weld it in myself but I just wanted it done right then and wasn't around home.

Yeah I understand the price is high but honestly, every muffler shop here charges over priced. I've gone to seriously 5 close muffler shops around here and the prices vary from $160-$250.

    Yeah I hear ya.

Should I run my tips straight back or angle them at the corner of the bumpers?

My Flowmaster 10 series, are the same and have 3/5 of those numbers i did not write the last two, and also no model number anywhere. and i ordered these from flowmaster (was stationed in the middle of no where), no middle man. they are just a over year old now. but my pops took off his exhaust on his 67 chevelle and they had pat numbers and model number which is weird (40/44 series) can not remember.
