    Thrush Welded Review

My previous setup consisted of single 3" with a Magnaflow high flow cat and a Flowmaster original 40 dumped before the rear axle. The 40 developed an internal rattle and I was getting sick of the intense drone inside so I decided to change it up. I cut the flow off and installed a single 3" Thrush Welded and the factory 2.75" tailpipe. The sound is perfect, exactly what I was looking for. Inside the cab you can't even hear the exhaust unless you get on the gas, then it starts to rumble. It has a mellow rumble at idle too, but nice and quiet. Outside, it maintains a very deep, smooth, hollow sounding tone. It isn't tinny or raspy whatsoever, regardless of rpm. There is no drone at all. I'm really happy with it, best $30 I've ever spent.

Those Thrush Welded mufflers really are a diamond in the rough. Can't beat them for the price and they are even offered in stainless for not too much money. I would buy a Thrush Welded before I ever consider a Flowmaster.

I might look into one, I am not a fan of the flowmaster 70 that came with my kit, too quiet for my taste. and for the price, I might as well.

Thrush is great, but not aggressive enough for me. Will high flow cats and LT headers satisfy me?

    Re: Thrush Welded Review

You do realize the Thrush Welded muffler is a direct copy of the (20+-year-old) Original 40 Series, right? It's produced for Thrush in China (so you're also supporting our economy by buying that one ) by the same company that sells the no-name version for $13 wholesale. Flows are a little more expensive (Summit sells the Original 40 [ex: 430402] for $69.95- stainless version [ex: 80430402] for $79.95), but you get a 3- or 10-year warranty with it, along with keeping American workers (they're built in California from American steel) working.

little touchy are we? it comes down to a couple things.

    1. its cheaper
    2. its a "direct copy"

I have had 2 flows fall apart and i got the finger on thier "warranty"

how many mexican "american workers" are there in the california factory? do you know where a good protion of thier paychecks go?

Right... "Direct copy"/cheaper = counterfeit. Unfortunately, not a good-quality counterfeit, either. Plus, they, of course, have had to do no engineering (we did that over 20 years ago, and have moved beyond that level a few times). Plus, their workers earn about a dime a day. You keep buying Chinese stuff, pretty soon that's what you'll be making, while THEY drive new BMWs and live in $500,000 homes.

Only if your muffler was well over 3 years, and/or you didn't have any proof-of-purchase.

None (although we do have Americans of Mexican descent, among others), and probably some portion.

If you're buying a muffler made in China, how much of that money do you think goes back into the American economy?

Mine sounds like 1988 GMC 355's, a little different, probably because I'm running manifolds and he's running long tubes. I'll try to take a sound clip soon.

I simply pointed out the irony of people preferring the Thrush to the 40, as it's a direct imitation- the same muffler, aside from construction quality.
