I'm looking to install a full exhaust system (including headers) into a 2 door, '97, 4wd Tahoe Vortec, but i couldn't find anything like a "bolt-on" kit, i'm considering the Dough Thorley headers (301y-fed) but i really don't know if a common cat-back would work with those, any heads up on this please?

I'm looking at those headers too right now for my 97 Sierra. The thing is I just installed a magnaflow stainless direct fit cat assembly. I dont know if those could be installed without hacking up my new piping.

Yes, the DT headers will mate up to the existing cat locations. Mine was a bit different due to the lift so the crossover pipe was custom bent by the shop I use.

Yup, they will bolt right up. Any cat back made for our trucks will bolt right up to. Though, I've never seen one available for our trucks, lol.
They are great headers, very well made and an amazing kit that includes everything.

If anyone has pics of them on their truck it would be great if they could post so we could get a preview

Here yah go. They're the ceramic coated ones. No complaints at all.

Another vote for the Thorleys... I've been very happy with mine (ceramic coated) as well.

To answer Okimaw's question... if you've replaced your cat forward piping with a direct fit setup, you'll have to cut that piping in order to install the headers (unless you run shorties). The Thorley header piping is larger than the direct fit replacement piping you have anyway (Thorley collectors are 2.5" vs the 2" Magnaflow direct fit piping).

Re: Full exhaust system, 97 Tahoe

Thanks for the info and pics guys, really helpful. I was wondering to about the cutting and welding as the piping that comes with the headers isn't stainless steel I guess I'd have to have the exhaust shop fab up some connections made of stainless to go with the reducersetc?

Would the DT's in the pics above work with a SAS on a 98 OBS??
Looks like the front DS would clear..

With enough fab skills, anything is possible. Keep in mind that Tig's is a 2wd hoe.

Mine is a 4wd and the crossover from the driver's side was fabbed up by the exhaust shop I use. I'll try & get pics up so you have a reference.

Page 2 of this thread shows teh difference between the 1/2 ton Vortec 350 headpipes and cats and the 3/4-1 ton Vortec 350 headpipes and cats.

    http://www.pacificp.com/forum/viewto...=9793&start=20

Headers and larger headpipes make a huge difference on a Vortec V8 truck. The Thorley kit accomplishes both. Combine teh Thorley kit with a PCM tune, it will feel like you dropped a mild 383 in there.

Sir, I understand the anything is possible concept, thank you, that didn't really help. I'm asking if the headers themselves have enough clearance a) around the sideways oil filter location on the K1500 b) the rear SAS shackle, how do the headers and/or Y-pipe look in that area. I'll be fabbing the y-pipe, I'm trying to get an idea of the clearance in those area's. If its to tight, I'll just use these...

My DTs have 2.5" collectors, but I don't have a y-pipe either. I'm guessing that a single collector (post y-pipe) would be 3"-3.5".

On the Suburban i'm buying I want the Thorley Tri-Y's, I have no need to keep it true dual, single 3" or 3.5" is plenty for a 350. I like the look of duals out the back so i'll buy a dual out muffler for dual tails.
