I had a friend with the exact same setup, engine and exhaust, and just like yours it would also start to sound too crackly under mild throttle.
If you like the chambered sound but hate that side effect of Flows, look into a Spintech muffler.

I have a 98 k2500 extened cab long box with a 383. just got it running last weekend. it has a mild cam, 10:1 CR, headers, new 3inch true duels with a summit narrow x-pipe, 40 series flowmasters and tailpipes exiting similar to stock except one on each side. it runs and sounds pretty damn good but it is a little too loud. i probable shouldn,t have bought 40 series. i could deal with it if it didn,t crackle like firecrackers when i mash on it. is there any type of exhaust tip that would smooth it out a little?

are you running cat's? if not, that is where a lot of the crackling is coming from. you could put in some short billet mufflers before your blow masters, and it should calm it down some..
thanks for responding guys. probable sounds funny to hear someone that bought 3 inch pipes and blowmasters bitching about their rig being to loud! I was just hoping for some sort of magic exhaust tip to tone it down a little. the crackling/blubbering noise is similar to a glasspack/cherry bomb type sound. no im not running cats. i really dont want to tear into the system because it was very expensive ($600) for the pipes to be bent the way i wanted and it is very solid and clean looking and does have a nice tone. i,ll probable just run it as is and break down in a year or so and get some quieter mufflers. im building a new house and shop this spring and this project will likely go on the back burner. so far im very happy with my new 383(big valves, ported heads and intake,6inch rods, mpfi upgrade, v-maxx spacer) and plucked lots of useful info off this site. thankyou for all your help!!!!!!
