45's behind the rear w/ tips is my vote. That's what I'm going to do myself.

Dumped at the bumper, imo. I hate the look of tips.

I like them behind the wheels, but tend to avoid big chrome tips.

Mine are like the ones in the first pic, almost the same set up (4" tips). I love mine.

I would say straight out the back or dumped behind the bumper. I think I am gonna go for dumped behind the bumper on my new truck.

Re: which exhaust exit looks better

i prefer no tips at all. i have mine dumped 14" past the muffler before the rear axle. but if i had to choose between rear or side i would say side with the exhaust going throught the body with the chrome body exhaust kits.

If you have ever met the guy with the dumps at his bumper you prolly wouldn't want to do anything to your truck that he has done to his. That being said I had my 98 dumped at the bumper and liked it a lot.

Re: which exhaust exit looks better

When I got my exhaust re-done, I decided to go with what we call 4" turn downs. I had them going straight out he back and when they started rusting and getting holes in them from rocks, it looked terrible. I really love the way my tips look, they dont stick out, but you can see them if you stand back.

Excuse the extremely dirty undercarriage, it has since been cleaned. But this is how I had my tips done:

Re: which exhaust exit looks better

I don't like tips. Duals aren't important to me any more, either. I'd rather have a big single coming from the muffler. If I were to have duals, I think I'd want them exiting the same side, or out the back and angled down. Through the body looks pretty cool on a street truck, too.

My truck is mostly stock, except for the oil and filter, so I wouldn't pay me a whole lot of attention, Though :-)

Re: which exhaust exit looks better

The point of a tip is to dress up the exposed termination of the exhaust system's tailpipe. Only the outer edge of the tip should be visible unless you're looking at the vehicle from some angle other than how it rests. It is considered a great job if a custom exhaust job has the tailpipes themselves and majority of the tips tucked away out of sight. That takes skill with bending and/or fabbing, and should be appreciated as functional and visually appealing workmanship.

The 45's with slash cuts on the green truck look great. Big and beefy just like the truck, and the end of the tips are all you can see...pipes tucked nicely.

The blue truck is great. Always appreciate what you can hear but not see.

Some trucks look best with exits on either side of the spare, straight out the back...or as mentioned tricked through the body somehow. There's no one right way. Post a pic of your truck.

My vote is for the tucked/turned down at the bumper. The 45 at the rear with big slash cut tips is not just a little over played in the land of cheese, it's WAY overplayed. Time to be a bit different out there in WI.

Can I give a +10? ....... +1 just doesn't seem to to it, for me, on this one.

What's really great is when they start to shake like they're going to fall off.

Thanks to all who have posted! heres a couple pics of my truck if it helps. Thought maybe the dumped would be better just for a cleaner appearance. also dont mind the hanging hitch im going to remove it or get one that sits flush.
