    Question DB by Corsa Exhaust

Has anyone had the DB Exhausts that are made by Corsa put on their Silverado/Sierra keeping the AFM? My uncle has one of the DB exhausts on his F-250 and it sounds like a beast accelerating, but when he was cruising it was as quiet as stock would be. Has anyone had one of these put on their truck and if so how sexy does it sound in V8 mode, and does it at least sound decent in V4 mode?

A member on here, Tweaks, has that exhaust on his truck and he is usually quite active in the exhaust forum so I am sure he will drop in and give his opinion on it. His truck is a '00 I believe so he doesn't have the AFM. On my '08, I had a Magnaflow cat back system and it did sound different when it dropped to 4 cyl, but not bad. You really arn't in the gas at all when it is in 4 cyl so it should only be there when the exhaust is at its quietest state.

    Look forward to it,
supposedly Corsa tunes their exhausts for AFM to try and sell to people who still want AFM but don't want to sound like a small helicopter. I've heard horror stories of people who kept their AFM but went through about 2 exhaust systems before just doing a muffler swap because of the horrifying sound of it.

Hhhmmmm, never heard of that myself. I have even had guys with straights and AFM that never mentioned it. I know when I had mine it was rarely in 4cyl, only basically when coasting and there isn't much exhaust note when not under load.

All these are from gmfullsize.com forum, the same one lol.

"When I had a Cherry bomb extreme I could completely tell when it switched, sounded lil machine gun going off. "

"I had a tip fail on my borla kit, and until I got around to having it replaced under warranty I just ran with a muffler, no tip, no turn downs. Sounded like a machine gun, as stated above. "

"CBE here and it's horrible when it switches."

" had flowmaster super 44's dumped and it sounded like a helicopter attack so i got rid of that setup and went to magnaflow and dumped it after the axle and that made it better but i could still hear it. I finally just had it tuned out because i dont do highway driving much anyway and it was more annoying than anything. fwiw "

I'm assuming the AFM detects how much load is on the engine to determine 4 or 8, wouldnt the extra power in turn reduce the engine load and increase the throttle range for AFM to engage?

The 5-10 hp that the exhaust is going to gain you (I am being generous here) won't help it enough to make a difference.

    Re: DB by Corsa Exhaust

The exhaust is part one of many mods, planning on pairing with an intake, some long tubes. and eventually once my warranty is up (or I feel confident enough to start voiding) I'll decide whether to chip and regear.

You should've seen my mustang, it had quite a lot of HP and Torque for an 08 6banger. Sounded perfect too... And then I realized I have an ATV and a Waverunner... LOL

    Re: DB by Corsa Exhaust

Intake will be useless unless you do ALOT more mods, the headers combined with the exhaust will get you 20 hp MAX on a stock engine (10 hp exhaust, 10 hp headers). Now, the headers WILL make a HUGE sound difference and this could really make it stand out when it goes to 4 cyl. My advice, custom tune and turn the AFM off.

Custom tune will definitely be when I am ready to void things. I had the throttle sensor in my truck go out during a road trip. I get 100 miles free towing from AAA a year... I was 94 miles away from the dealer O.o

I can see your point. Might want to check with your dealer though, my dealer doesn't care as long as I flash it back to stock before it goes in.

    Re: DB by Corsa Exhaust

Rumor has it they are trained now to read a code showing the aftermarket tune and flash back to stock. I tried emailing my service tech under a miscellaneous email address to see what he would say (and see if I could get him to slip up and have it in writing, lol) But I lost the username for the email address... lol!

I also see on other forums the stock intake is actually pretty good on these trucks. My mustang i got an instant power boost and it was the same style and similar location (just more torwards the front of the grill). if so is it just the paper element that is causing the restriction and the baffle?

    Re: DB by Corsa Exhaust

There isn't much restriction there! You are already getting more air flow then that engine needs.

So, if i get this exhaust you think ill have enough air going out it wont be too cool it slows down and ends up causing less exhaust from goin out?

No, not at all. Not even something I would be remotely worried about.

Have the dual rear exit on my 2011 5.3 extended cab and love it. You can't really hear a difference when AFM is in 4 cylinder mode. I love Corsa, their factory is around the block from me and I have seen their operation many times at annual open house Corvette show.
