I just got a whipple system off ebay for my 97 chevy vortec and the system isn't like the other whipple systems for these trucks the ones I've seen. Like most of them have the computer and extra injectors but mine has none. It has some kind of box, like a boost a pump setup similar to KB, and some other kind of fuel return pump. Has anyone else got a system like this?? help! And another thing it has a large wiring harness but requires no computer, however does this harness turn my speed limiter off somehow?

Re: Whipple question for 5.7 vortec

I also have a used system for the 5.7 vortec without the extra injectors and electronics.

I haven't done the install yet, but you don't have to have the Whipple electronics, etc.

I have seen a lot of used systems on ebay, and I am amazed at some of the "stock" stuff that is still on the supercharger set up that they are selling. Like the throttle body, etc. Don't they need that on the truck still?

Anyway, the wires you are speaking of may be something they took off to sell the unit, that they really didn't need to take off.

Re: Whipple question for 5.7 vortec

Well thats good to know that I don't have to have the computer and stuff. However,I've been readin up about the whipple computers and I'm glad that mine doesn't have one. I talked to a guy at Nelson Performance and he said that the whipple efi computers make it almost impossible to get your motor tuned out properly, and one of my buddies said the same. Which I don't know, I'm new to supercharging so any advice would be great.

    also: thanks for replying

Re: Whipple question for 5.7 vortec

I have a PCM tune by Westers right now, and when I get around to doing the Whipple install in a few weeks, I will send it back and have it re-tuned to match the charger.

The only negative thing I have heard about the Whipple without the extra injectors is that people say I might have a fuel deficiency, (not enough gas) going to the cylinders.

Since I will be in there, I am thinking about replacing the old "poppet" style injectors on my 5.7 vortec over to the newer spider injectors from www.GMPartsdirect.com Part # 93441235. They deliver the same amout of fuel, but I have heard they work a tad better. The injectors on the new spider are right at the cylinder, unlike the current (old) ones that are 6-8 inches away.

This link shows what they look like, but you can get them cheaper on GMPartsdirect.com

Let me know when you do your install, maybe we can share some issues back and forth for an easier install.....I will also try to post when I do mine.

Re: Whipple question for 5.7 vortec

Yea I've heard about these newer injectors but have never really checked them till now. However, the only thing is if you just need more fuel add in a booster pump. When I was running nitrous, I installed a msd inline fuel pump. Its good for 500hp by itself but is made to work just as a booster and for the price you can't beat it, $125. And when you get it programed again, I'm pretty sure they will turn up your injectors for more fuel. One of my buddies truck was programed at Tulsa by Ed Wright and they turned his up.The main thing I want to check out is this GM Marine intake.

I'm getting my charger tuesday and plan on getting it installed asap, then going to the track friday. I want to run it with the stock boost to get a before and after. I'll be going to 8 or 9 psi in a few weeks with programming. So i'll keep you informed
