1993 TBI 350 Whipple engine re-build

I plan on driving my 1993 TBI 350 truck as-is (stock with Whipple) for roughly the next year.

I barely drive the truck at all with my regular commuting due to my wife being in school for another year.

But I want a rebuild before I start really trying to sqeeze more power from the Whipple set up.

I'm really unsure what to do.

Not really a fan of the Vortec head thing if I have to mess around with EGR, computer tuning, etc. too much.

I want something that will run with minimal tuning and tweaking.

Been thinking of ditching the TBI setup in favor of something else. Perhaps a mass flow setup??

What are the options as far as extra fuel for the TBI if I decide to go crazy and build a 383 AND run smaller S/C pulley to feed the beast more air? I know you can go larger injectors, higher fuel pressure, custom tune. What about adding extra injectors?

Would it be a viable option to buy a mass flow type fuel injection setup, use a carb adapter to TBI plate, and keep my existing Whipple setup?

I'm so confused....

I want to make 400-550 HP (and as much torque as possible) and keep the budget as low as practical to do a very sturdy engine build (it is still totally up in the air as to whether or not I go the 383 route; I just like the sort of power it could make.)

I like the idea of changing to a dry intake manifold. It would also be nice to intercool if possible. I suppose one could always use some water injection. I'm just not a fan of the idea of water injection.

OR

Do I yank the whole works (engine, tranny, computer) and chuck it into my motorhome, then build a TPI twin turbo? (I've always considered it the ultimate engine for a SBC build....)

Looking for some guidance and suggestions. I'm COMPLETELY overwhelmed by the possibilities in building a SBC. At least when I was tweaking imports, there were always limited options and it was easy to figure out which ways I wanted to add power and have a motor built.

P.S. What would be the best plug and play heads for my rebuild to make some better power? My friend suggested getting the Edelbrock Performer intake and heads because he says it just bolts on and makes pretty good power. I think I would run a different cam, though.

If you want a 383 build or buy one and get a bigget T/B and high flow injectors if you wanna keep the Whipple. Forget about adding spacers or any of that stuff w/ the TBI whipple....there is no room by the firewall.

As far as a TPI TT....for get it, The stock TPI intake will not support it......you would need a Stealth Ram intake.....and you can bolt that on any engine.

If you don't mind me asking, what have you done with your truck, exactly?

I know you've got the Whipple, and if I remember correctly, you are also running smaller pulley and higher boost?

Is your engine internally stock?

After my friend talked some sense into me, I think just a nice fresh re-build of my engine will suffice. Perhaps bore it out a bit and add a few upgrades as far as strength and reliability are concerned, and make it rev a little higher and breathe better.

I tend to get carried away when my imagination takes hold... visions of twin turbos and that sort of nonsense.

Not saying it won't happen.

My motor is basically stock except for a cam, lifters and toller rockers. The cam and roller rockers let the engine rev alot more and free-er then before. I also have a Turbo City big bore T/B and flow matched injectors and I'm running 10# of boost.

im in the same boat..just had a rebuild and am now thinking about a world 427 but then reality sets in..its a truck,,if l wana go fast buy a 92ss camaro...thinking about that to,,head still in clouds...
In the end will probally go with the gm 383@3400$us and a whiple and the rest of my set up and call it a day...am shooting for best all around truck for speed and gas milage as l like to travel and when l do like to take the truck,,,dont want gas being a determining factor to wether l go or not...also want the truck to operate in all tempeture ranges we have up here ie minus 40 celcius ect so want a reliable truck as well...dont want to be tinkering with something on the side of the road at minus40...break down up here in the winter and it could be deadly
guess in the end lm like most folks and am looking for a fine balance between speed,gas milage and practibility
