Forced induction is always a good idea whether it's a turbo or a blower. If you tow it's going to be worth it just for the extra power. With a turbo your going to need to upgrade your injectors, custom tune and eventually a new tranny because you will eventually blow it up with the extra power. Look in the performance section there are a few threads on turbo's and blowers

The cost of the turbo/kit is only about 1/3 of the total cost once you consider supporting mods. Like stated above, you'll need:

    injectors
    fuel pump
wastegate, BOV, FMIC (if it doesn't come with the kit)
    gauges (Wideband, Boost, FP, Interceptor)
BUILT trans, not just a shift kit
    posi rear end, NOT G80
    valve springs
    custom tune
    Electronic Boost Controller (optional)
    Catch can

It adds up real quick! Good luck!

Do the valve springs have to be changed. I don't plan on changing tha cam or turning high R's. What size are the stock injectors, what size would I need also what size injectors are in the flex fuel trucks. I kinda figured the trans and rear wouldn't hold up. What ones do I need and what trucks could I pull one out of?
Anything else I would need other than the actual turbo parts I already have most of that

    Thanks larry

If you are wanting to run a decent amount of boost (7+psi) then you'll need to change your valve springs to keep from leaking boost. For injectors, you can get the marine 8.1 injectors which are 42#. Stockers are around 24#. If you are thinking of pushing 10+ psi then I would go straight to Siemens 60# injectors so you have room to grow. For the rear diff, I would look up Ron's Machine on Ebay and get either a Detroit TruTrac or Eaton posi. For trans, you could go with a FLT Level 7.

i wasnt planning on running that much boost i want to keep the truck as a dailey driver i guess my next question is how much boost can the motor handle safely.

10psi is the top of the "safe" range but there are people running 15+psi with a stock engine. The tune becomes more and more critical the harder you push it. Some guys have fried a piston on 5psi. Just depends...

    Here's a warning....boost is VERY addicting!

typically 6-8lbs is considered safe, you can go 10 but that can be pushing it... everything needs to be running perfectly for that or more... if you are just running 6-8 then you have a little more forgiveness if the tune isn't just perfect. That is still going to give you plenty of power

I was wondering the same kinda? Would the universal kit from STS be ok, they say application specific turbo? Then upgrade the injectors and fuel pump? Im not looking for over 7lbs on this. Its my daily driver but want some more grunt and go. And not looking to spend $3k on a S/C..
Im new to the forced induction game..

You could run 20+ but the tune would have to be spot on and youd need race gas or e85. If you were feeling lucky you could run meth and pump gas but....

HP Tuners or EFI Live. They will take a lot of learning and reading to get the hang of. If you don't have the time or aren't interested, then it would be best just to get a custom tune.
