I need a new engine in my truck, its a 97 silverado v6 4.3 2wd. I would like to put a 5.7 in instead but im not sure how much extra work, time, and money is involved. Any suggestions? If its gonna be too much trouble im gonna go ahead and just replace the v6. Also any suggestions on where to buy a good turnkey v6 4.3 vortech?

The 5.7 Vortec is a direct swap from the 4.3L, 5.0L even 7.4L. If can find any of these engines with everything with them....pcm, wiring harness, and belt driven accessories it should be simple as dropping the 5.0L, 5.7L, or 7.4L in place of your 4.3L and getting your pcm custom tuned to any of those engines your switching too. Oh and no extra work besides what I just said! Simple stuff....Drop and Go! Hope this helps you.

Yes the motor mounts should line up with the v8. You wont have to change out anything except the wiring harness and computer unless you get the wiring harness and the computer from the v8 your getting. Transmission is the same in both v6 and v8 same with everything else you listed. As for websites for shopping, what type of shopping do you mean?

Shopping for a turnkey engine. Thanks for all your advice, i have a truck exact year and color as yours. Man ur truck is sweet. Im thinking black paint and an air bag system, so how much did you drop your truck front and back? Im thinking i will go with 4 in the front and 6 in the rear, a tunno cover and a new grill. i want it to be all black except for the rims which will be chrome. Thanks again, ill be putting up some pics of the truck in about 3 weeks.

You should swap to a 4.8,5.3,5.7,6.0 or 8.1(496).

Pauly do u know if it's the same swap for the 8.1 because I believe that's a big block so it doesn't seem like it'd be as easy to do.

The bellhousing patter is teh same as the smallblocks. Depending on year, the 8.1 used the same PCM as the smallblock GEN 3 engines did, just with a different cal. file flashed into it. I can see teh motor mounts being differnt.

Rumoured that there is a problem with teh 8.1 not fitting in the 1/2 tons frame rails, but I cant confirm nor deny this. It has something to do with teh 2500HD and 1500 frames being different.

Its much expensive to get big power out of the 8.1 without using nitrous.
Here is some 8.1 performance parts.

Going to a 6.0L engine with L92 heads L92/L76 intake and cam can net almost 550hp for little cash outlay(comparativley).

What all is needed to drop a 6.0L in place of a 4.3 v6 in a 1999 nbs 4x4 5-spd silverado? I am thinking of buying a car so that I can build my sivlerado up a little more without worries of downtime
