Looking at possibly getting an SCT Xcalibrator2 for my suburban. Looking for a little more umph and at the same time, at least slightly better mpg. The truck is otherwise completely stock. I do a lot of boat towing and hauling a bunch of people decent distance sans boat.

Does anyone have any experience with the SCT in the 8.1 with the 4 speed tranny? Good/ bad/ indifferent?

I cannot answer for SCT but I had a 8.1 in my 02 avalanche 2500 and used hp tuners. The gains on a tuned 8.1 are great. They seemed pretty corked up stock. A mail order tune would also be a good idea.

Justin99- Thank you for your feedback. What kind of gains (perceived or real) did you see? Did you feel anything different with longevity or reliability

    MPG increase/ decrease?
