In this thread, post 63, Heslekrants links to a set of self-aligning 1.6s sold by KMJPerformance on Fleabay. In this old thread, it's mentioned that the rockers are under $100, but that clearly isn't the case anymore. Do they still exist for under $100 anywhere? The poking around I've done indicates that the steel rockers from PRW are pretty good. I'd hate to buy these for $129 and find them a week later for $89 like they were in the original thread.

Quick edit: I did find them for $116 on Amazon with free shipping.

Don't waste your money on cheap rockers, especially roller tipped. If you're going to do it, buy a good quality full roller rocker. The valve tip is not where the must friction occurs, the pivot ball is, so you're leaving a lot on the table with just a roller tip. further more with a cheap roller rock er, when it fails, where are all of those little rollers going to go? Into your engine...which will cost you a lot.

I didn't know roller tips even had bearings. I don't want full roller because I need them to fit under the stock valve covers. The only thing I'm after is more lift, and by the sounds of things the 1.6s offer a nice little bump in power. Got any recommendations? I don't want my engine to sound like a sewing machine either.

Uh yeah, they are roller tipped rockers because they have a roller on the tip....that rolls on a roller bearing.

There are full roller rockers that will fit under a stock valve cover.

I'd get a set of GM Performance 1.6:1 full roller rockers. They are reasonably priced on summit

You mean these for $427? Yeah, that's reasonably priced. The Summit ones, at $250, are probably Proform junk, leaving me with Lunatis at $300 as Summit's most affordable option. I can get non-roller OE style (made by Comp) 1.6s for $13 each, but there's no way in hell I'm paying $208 for factory style rockers.

Ok this just my 2 cents... But say you've spent 5 grand on a 383 stroker, and then you want to finish it the cheap way by just going with $100 roller rockers, then they fail and trash your expensive engine... Would you rather spend 450 or another 5000?

$313 is a lot more tasty. The whole point of me making this thread was because Heslekrants used the rockers I posted successfully. I think 70,000 miles successfully on one motor. Pretty sure he mentioned doing it on like 3 motors. A bunch of others jumped on the bandwagon too. According to google, they're a good rocker, but there's always that uncertainty. I've got 205k on the clock, but I'm sure I can get at least 300k and I'd hate for a rocker to stand in the way of that. . .

I've heard that the Summit rollers are actually made by Scorpion.

Nah, Scorpion rollers are made in the USA, as are the Summit roller rockers.

I'm running standard body Summit rollers on my vortec, but don't have many miles on them so I can't comment on their durability.
