This is a discussion on new rebuilt 350 less power than before within the Small Block forums, part of the Performance category; wrecked my 95 ex cab gmc swb the stock 350 motor had 190,000 miles on it with a leaking rear ...
wrecked my 95 ex cab gmc swb the stock 350 motor had 190,000 miles on it with a leaking rear main seal and the start of a slight miss maybe do to most of valve seals leaking? but it had flow tech headers and open exhaust with flow master and it would smoke 31s through first gear from dead stop i took the motor out installed new crank, bearings, rings, timingchain, engine seals had heads redone withnew valve springs put the engine in a 94 chevy silverado reg cab swb running exact same exhaust and an edelbrock 3702 cam versus the original stock cam but i cant get more than a wheel bark starting in the gravel the only other big difference is tranny new motor runs like a clock slow as the short hand

yeah used sealed power rings had the block cylinders honed the engine compression is good but the engine might have 600 miles on it all pulling a 6 by 12 trailer im wondering if a trans overhaul would help the truck drop its balls
did you degree the cam?

uh the cam is slightly over stock i guess it was installed as a stock cam would be i asked tech at summit if a 4 degree advance via timing chain would help he said he had never tried that but he didnt think it would freak out computer
got number 1 piston up tdc put timing chain on 6 and 12 oclock cloytes double roller with advance or retard slots i opted for the standard or oem
no the original truck was stock with 3.42s i in stalled 3.73s the truck im running now is 3.73 the only difference i found between these to gears is a gas mileage difference
Go back to the basics. It sounds like a build error.
Check cranking pressure. If it's not consistent cyl to cyl, you need to find out if it's losing it past a valve or past the rings.
Did you hone the cylinders for the new rings?
That's not a lot of cam; installing it straight up as you indicated should be fine......unless the grind/indexing to the dowel is off; that's why I asked if you degreed it.

cranking pressure? compression test? honed all cylinders if i knew my stock computer wouldnt have freaked i would have bored and strocked this motor but the closest tuner is tbi chips in charlotte area or close thats 2 hundred miles away and my sleeper is a daily driver either way i have lost the torque to boil 31s but the truck doesnt seem as flat as before in mid range

If it is computer controlled it could need a tune if anything was changed...comp, bore or stroke
