2001 2500HD 4x4 Crew, Couple a months ago had a local dyno shop tune my truck with the Diablo Predator handheld. I had purchased the hand held on ebay and found out from dyno shop that equipment was outdated and tuner guy did not think he could do very much with older version predator. Made the decision to have him go ahead and try due to circumstance of needing truck to tow that week-end and thinking even slight gain is better than nothing. Tuner quoted saying" might get 3 to 5 more horsepower with current version of handheld". he actually made decent gains in Horse Power and Torque believe he said 26 hp and 34 ft lbs torque. I was really wanting a JBB tune after reading all the positive write ups about them on this forum and many others. Now am stuck thinking a 26 hp gain is pretty darn good is it possible JBB tune could make even more? I am pretty sure I could get my money back out of the Predator and put that bling bling towards a JBB tune if I can get more bang for the buck so to speak from it. I saw BB has a tune session coming up in San Jose Ca. which happens to be about 60 miles from me and am wanting opinions on if I should pursue or stick with the gains I have.

I would stay with your current gains. But if you have money to burn, I don't think you will lose any hp. Might even gain some more. 6.0's respond pretty well to tuning.

Tune guy tells me he is running 87 octane tune but wants me to use 91 octane when towing. Also messed with injector size to get a better a/f ratio which he tells me truck a/f ratio was so lean it would not even run at WOT when he first put on dyno. He did not change anything pertaining to TM or shifting. I am under the impression changes in those parameters really make the biggest improvements. Your thoughts?

The shift points will be your biggest gains. TM, not so much, plus it can be hard on the transmission over the long haul. I had a 6.0 HD 1500 4x4 with 3:73's. Second gear would pull almost to 100mph before shifting on it's on at 6100 rpm on the tack. Second gear would kick down to first at 45 mph and pull close to 60 mph. For passing on the highway, shift points are a must.

TM will give you tons of power off the line. Deffinatly get the BB tune! You will be happy you did. With my tune on a 2001 2500 HD I shaved .7 off my quarter mile time. your 26 hp gain won't do that!

Much more power to be made and getting it to the ground will happen a lot better with the TM removed!
