This is a discussion on Would road race tires be good for the strip? within the Track / Dyno forums, part of the Performance category; I found this ad on racejunk.com and for $10-$100 each, they could be worth trying. Has anyone tried this before? ...

more than likely. youre gonna do a burn out to get em sticky before the run anyway and theyre basically slicks.
You shouldnt have a problem how much power you layin done on the GMC, if its basically stock there wont be a problem

I think a 4.56 might be to much for 300hp, is a t56 a 4 or 5 speed not for milor with manual trans

6 speed
I'm aiming for around 350HP at the wheels atleast, but I know for sure it will have 300 HP at the wheels. I don't want to spin it past 6500 RPM +/-, so the cam will be mild. I'm gonna use Rhoads lifters to help the bottom end a little.

Depends on how many heat cycles they have been through. If they have been cycled a lot, the rubber will get hard and be as slick as glass.
Once you start making good power they will not work very well at the track. A road race tire has stiff sidewalls and a low profile for cornering. Both are not very good for launching at the drag strip. The sidewalls need to be pretty soft and taller so they will wrinkle and aid in traction when launching.

Why bother? stick some wide street tires on it and you wont have to worry about wheelspin period.
As far as road race tires, they will do sorta ok, but they need a long burnout
