    700R4 in place of a 4l60E?

The 4l60 is shot in my 94 Silverado. In looking for a new one I have seen tons of 700R4's for pretty cheap. Is this even a viable option? I dont know much about the 700 in a 4x4 truck application, I've seen plenty in street cars though built pretty strong. Is it a weaker/stronger/about even trans?

    What do you guys think?

Also would that work with the T case from a 700 or will the one matched with the 4l60 work?

the 4l60 in your truck is controlled electrically..the 700 wouldnt be obviously...the 4l60 is basically a turbo 400 tranny..i would imagine it would be a little different for the tcase and the drive shaft. the 700r4 was what was in trucks pre-4l60e, so theres a chance it would bolt up fine..

Right. I know that it will physically bolt up to the motor. I know the 4l60 is controlled electronically, that's my main concern. I'm just wondering would I have to do something to the computer? Maybe get a computer from like a 90-92? If I got a 700 in it's place and just left off the plugs that normally go to the 4l60 will that throw codes that wont let it be driven?

4L60 is not a TH400. 4L60 is the electronically controlled TH700. You would better off not to attempt this swap. I would stick with a 4L60. There was something unique about them for the 93 and 94 years, maybe the PWM. Not sure. Either way, putting a TH700 in place of your 4L60 will be more hassle than you think.

    Re: 700R4 in place of a 4l60E?

Whoa!! Too much misinformation in this thread. If you have a 4L60 in your '94, it's not electronically controlled. The 4L60 is for all practical purposes a renamed 700R4. They are interchangeable as long as the 700R4 is a post-86 model with the upgraded front spline count. Other than that, just pay attention to the obvious things for a tranny swap like the TV cable hardware and speedo calibration. The 4L60E is the electronically controlled version of the 700R4/4L60 and would not be a good idea if you're currently running a 4L60.

Your 94 has the 4L60E and you'd be better to rebuild...
