Might wanna make a fullsize cardboard model. Ive seen a bunch of people do it that way with quite a bit of success on their final products fit.

I am a little new to welding (2 years experience) and I am about to order some material and am about to commence building my bumper/brushguard. Only thing is, where the hell do I start? I know Im going to need some expanded metal and tubing to make my bullring (nerf bars maybe?). I know I want to make my bumper out of 1/4" steel, but what do i call that, steel plates or sheets? Part of the reason why i am posting this forum is so i dont look like a jackass when I tell them what i want them to order for me, and the other reason is to get some advice from people who have been there and done that...so any input would be greatly apprectiated!

here is a link to the build thread for my bumper i made on my 97. Mine certainly isn't as detailed as some others on here but it will at least give you an idea of the project.

I started with how it was gonna mount to the frame and built off of the mounts. And I would definitely use cardboard as templates, it will save time and money for sure.
Search the forum and you will find some great builds with lots of information.
EDIT: Just dug up Drisco Z71's build. It's a great example of how easy this project can be and I love the design of it.
