how close is too close to run the air line by the exhaust? the place i had planned on running the line will be too close for comfort so now i'm thinking of running it on the outside of the frame until it's past the headers then run it inside the frame

You should be fine running it inside the frame rail. That is where I am running mine. You can always get some of those heat jackets to put on there too.

Whats up with the truck? I haven't seen any pics in a while and your progress pics link aint workin.

I'm not sure what your the frame is like on that body style truck but here is what I did because I was scared of the same thing. I 90'd right off the bag and ran the airline inside the frame, the "clip" I guess you'd call it. Hope that helps.

i was lookin at it again, running it on the inside seems pretty close too, since the frame is gonna be 2x4. i don't wanna run it inside the 2x4 either because that'd just be a pain if i ever had to change that out...

and thats becuase there hasn't been any progress! i've been too lazy. chris sold his site minitrucker.net, so i lost my site too. but i'm getting the front done hopefully today, then i can start on the frame

    Re: air line + exhaust

I couldn't run my line in the frame because I didn't cut the pocket in my bag cups and the angle to get the line in the frame would have been too funky for me.

Anyways, I went to a hydraulic shop and bought a bunch of heat and cut proof sleeving, it wasn't cheap by any means but it can withstand some VERY hot temps before it will even react to heat.

I wrapped my headers and header wrap and wraped the airline with it also seems to do the trick

    Re: air line + exhaust

when running the line through the pocket (not the cup, but what the cup is mounted to) should i make the hole a tight fit, or give the line some room? i was thinking that if it had room, then it would shift and rub, but if it's a tight fit it would stay put, although there is till a chance of it rubbing

Run a grommet and you should be fine (once again what I did was file my shock hole extra smooth then made it a tight fit with the cut proof/heat proof sheilding.

Or if you are using 1/2 inch airline buy some 3/4 air line and split it in half and sleeve it with that.

I know that on my 1-ton the first time i ever did bags i put the airline on the inside of the frame right next to the cat, well it was fine, the airline never busted until I clogged up the cat and it got red hot then it finally blew, lol it was pretty funny rode 2 hours to indy truck bash on a bump stop i threw in. If your really worried run it on the outside/top of the frame and wrap it with something that can withstand heat.
