I am getting pretty close to calling up stylin concepts and ordering my 4/6 DJM drop for the 99-up trucks. I do have a few questions about it however if anybody can help me out

    1. I do know i am going to have to get an alignment afterwards...but do i need to get the rear pinion angle set somewhere? Also, does the carrier bracket come with the 4/6 kit from stylin concepts, or am i going to have to order this along with the kit?

    2. My dad and I have done alot of car related maintanence (ball joints, brakes, typical routine maintanence) we have a decent amount of tools as well, is this something we can tackle in the driveway? Will we need to rent a spring compressor? I was going to get a shop to do it...but i called one today, and they were less than impressive sounding IMO (telling me DJM arms are total junk and to go with belltech spindles ), and i'd rather screw up my truck myself than pay someone to screw it up
in short...is this a driveway job for people semi-familiar with cars, but unfamiliar with drop kits

    3. Any other little things we need to know about that could cause inconviences that could be avoided without being totally ignorant on whats going on?

    4. Will this be an afternoon project? Two day project? (i can drive my bird if downtime is necessary)

thanks for any insight, tips, hints that people can give me I want to try to tackle this myself, but i will pay someone to put it on if totally necessary i guess :to:

This will take up a decent amount of the money i have made so far lately, so i sure hope i like a 4/6 stance

finally, if i want to run shockwaves in the future, will they work with the djm lower arms?

sorry for the length of this question...but any help answering any of the above would be greately appreciated

    steve ;)

Do you have what you need to cut a notch in the frame in the rear?

I'm sure i could get ahold of a cutoff wheel....or other sawsall types of cutting tools. what exactly will i need? I can't get ahold of anything too fancy (such as a plasma cutter or torch) but can i use anything more caveman style?

You should be fine with a Sawzall. That's what I used on my truck when I did the c-notch.

yeah, a sawzall is fine, just drill out hte corners of the notch and connect the dots.

make sure you cut the notcxh about 1/8th inch bigger than the template so you can clear the welds on teh c-section.

you might need the pinion shim since your an ext cab.

me and my dad did a 4/4 drop in the garage in about 9 hours, and were doing the flip kit this weekend, so you can prob do it over two days.

oh yeah one last tip, take your bed off, for 4 bolts and a wire it makes the job a helluva lot easier.

    just my $.02

im unframiler with the NBS trucks and dropping them but i have dropped my old 90 phatom and about 5 or 6 other s-10s and blazers so i know what im doing. its a totally easy project cause basicly what ur doing is nothing harder than the matniece u discribed. some things i would try to get before doing the drop is a sawzall with a high quality metel cutting blade. with a real metel cutting blade u will be able to cut threw the frame easy! second thing that would help is a grinder. cause when i do notchs i cut them about a 1/4 of a inch bigger than the acual notch to clear the welds on the notch like stated before but when u go to fit the notch sometimes it needs a little more clearnce and thats where the grinder comes in handy, for those little things . also drill bits with a healty drill. i ended up breaking 2 cheap bits and got a nice one and banb no problems. so dont go cheap on ur tools. also alot of jackstands lol i can never have enough. i usally get the vhecale off all fours and level and support it with 4 jacks placed on the frame then in the rear when doing ur notch u want to support the rear of the frame so it wont colaplse thats where the extra jacks come in handy. also do one side at a time u dont want to rear hald to like just fall off when ur notching it. and like sated before definitly take off ur bed! after u take off ur bed jack it all up do the front drop first then do the rear flipkit or shakle or whatever ur going with and set it back on the ground without doing the c-notch and with the bed off with a sharpie mark the center of the axel then jack it all back up supporting the rear half of the frame and then do ur notch one side at a time. its better then way cause when u do ur flipkit it might shift the axel a little forward or backwards and u dont want ur axel missing ur notch! that would be pointless lol. also if u feel the need u could rattle can where ever u cut so it wont ever rust but i never did. dont forget to greese all the zerk fittings, and then after u drive it a week tighten all the bolts back to specs. also if they says tighten to X number of pds do it. dont over do it sometimes tighter is not always better. after the drop is done like i said a week later tighten all the bolts back up, make sure u get an alinment, also check to see if ur y-pipe hangs down to far u might have to have it relocated higher.(no clue with the NBS) i think i covered most of it i can really think of anything more. oh yea dont forget shocks too lol im sure they come witht he kit and also if the kit comes with 1 inch bumpstops throw those away and go get urself some button bumpstops! i had the bigger ones on my notch and i bottomed out once in a while but with the newer button notchs i never bomtomed out unless i was towing something. but i think thats it PM if u have any more questions and ill give u my home phone so we can talk, anyone else have anything to throw in?

well me and my bro have been working with that same drop kit from stylin concepts and mine is the OBS. pretty much we used a plasma cutter to cut the notches in the frame the cuts were really good, just make sure to do one notch at a time, since when u cut it may be off just a tad but u can adjust if necessary, our allignment of where the notch should be was dead on and didnt really have to do any adjustment just alittle trimming here and there to get the C-NOTCH to fit snug into the cut. the rear flip kit was fairly easy, i dont want 2 say really easy cause it did involve some work, but all in all fairly easy. but im talkin from the view point of a OBS so there is some difference, good luck with the kit. the kit came complete with no missing parts except for they gave us 2 different size bolts for the flip kit but i just went down to the local hardware store and got longer bolts but besides that everything looks aight, good luck.....Trey
