    When you drop the rear of a truck via a flip kit (6" drop) the shock mounts on the axle are 6" close to the mounts on the frame. This is really to short for normal travel shocks to fit. Shock extenders allow you to use a standard drop shock and keep the shock geometry relatively the same. Using a shock extender allows you more travel. Dunno if you've seen any pics of extenders but here is one I installed on my brother's truck.
