It is very easily done taking it off as an assembly. I have done a few of these and it is the method I prefer. Check out this thread:

I changed the intake manifold gasket on my '98 BurB several years ago, doing the complete disassembly, and clearing evey part etc. I took most of the day. A buddy has a '99 that has just started a leak and he wants help changing it.
He doesn't want to do the complete disassembly. Has anyone replace the gaskets by removing the entire intake manifold as an assembly? I believe it is one method that is either in Chilton's or the Haynes manuals.

what about a complete write-up? I don't even know what step 1 is :)
