Anyone know where I can find the Auto Trak II transfer case fluid? I've tried two NAPA's, an O'Reilly, and several Wal-Marts. The NAPA guys knew about it but don't carry it and I didn't even bother to ask at O'Reilly or Wal-Mart.

    Also, what's the capacity?

It's an '02 Z71 with a 5.3, 3.73's and the Auto Trak transfer case (if any of that matters).

    Thanks!

    Wouldn't it just be ATF?

I run the Mobil1 Synthetic ATF in both vehicles' transmissions and both the transfer cases.

Not yet. The stealer is closer than the nearest off road place I found, so I'll probably end up getting it there.

I don't think so...not with the Auto Trak transfer cases anyway (just going by what I found on here). I tend to stick with whatever the manual says anyway. Even if it's more expensive, it's cheaper than a new transfer case and I can blame GM that way if something breaks.

$30 a qt is pretty steep though. Anyone know how many it takes?

    Wow. That's cool.

Today when I get to the shop I'll look it up in the computer and see if it says anything about it.

Not a good idea, if you have autotrak you need to run the autotrakII fluid in the t-case. Here is the gm part #12378508

Thanks for the part #. It's a lot cheaper on gmpartsdirect.com...about $23 for 4 quarts it looks like.

Any idea how many quarts it takes?

You need 2 quarts. I paid less than $6 a quart a few months ago.

Why does GM now spec auto trak II when they put dextron in from the factory? hell, my case says "dextron II or III" on it (and it is autotrac)

What year is your truck? I haven't checked my fluid in awhile so I don't remember what it has from the factory. The manual says auto trak II though and I don't remember seeing anything on the case itself.

I know the following applies to NBS trucks and I believe it should apply to OBS if the transfer cases are the same. Maybe find someone to check service bulletins for you.

'99 and part of '00 they were putting ATF in the Autotrac transfer cases. There is a service bulletin out to replace it with the Autotrak II fluid. Generally, if you have ATF in you transfer case, you should drain and refill Autotrak II, drive it for 200-300 miles, then do the drain and refill again with Autotrak II.
