guys i dont know what the problem is i have blown 5 cv axles in two months 4 in the last 2 weeks 4 of them have been on the passenger side, 1 broke in the mud, one broke climbing a hill not hard just very light throttle, and snap, hte next broke in 2wd while going around a gate at the farm, the next broke when flexed ina ditch going into the field, the next broke while pulling into parking space, only the last one has been the driver side, the torsion bars are not turned much, the rear susp is stock and it is still slightly lower than level, has anyone ever had this many problems with these peices of junk, my ttb 84 bronco has taken countless abuse hopping up and down on packed dirt in 2nd gear 4lo and been rockcrawling numerous times and not given the slighest hint of a week spot, so what is this things deal?

where are you getting your replacements? I've never had a problem with mine.. even buried the truck to the frame a few times.

well the first blown was replaced with junkyard special on the pass side when it broke i got an advance autoparts shaft, the two after were also because of warrenty, the 5th one to break was still the factory unit, it broke pulling in a parking spot, you would think it would have broke when i played tug-o-war with an f150 earlier that day or when i went and pulled a guy out, but nope it randomly broke on pavement in 2wd

They aren't randomly breaking. It sounds like you beat the chit out of them and they aren't made for that. Usually once they go bad it takes a few miles on them to really start making noise. I had to replace both in my old truck that had 35's because I got stuck with it. It took one shaft about a week to go bad and the other about a month.

    Re: cv axles break repeadetly

no im not beating the **** outta them, the only time i have ever done anything hard to the truck was when i hooked up to the ford, other than that when i went to pull the guy out when i got there he was out and i kept my truck in 2wd, the first axle the boot was ripped so i assume dirt and contaniments ate out all the grease, but after that the next three were totally unacceptable, driving up a grass hill in 4 hi not even spinning the tires, going through a grass ditch to go into a field, the ditch wasnt even deep enough to lift a tire, and one broke in 2wd going around a gate in gravel and the other broke pulling into pizza hut last night, so no its not from beating the **** outta my truck, the truck is babied with the expception of hooking to the ford, the bronco is for beating the **** out of because apparently it takes it better than the chevy

people get offended when they hear the truth so dont take it the wrong way ifs guys

those cv joints don't hold up to much stress at all like you said man but somebody should make a heavy duty cv for it that you wouldnt be able to break but then the shafts themselves would start breaking or you would be breaking the hubs or maybe even the carrier. or it could be worse and you start breaking driveshafts or gears

basically when you start beefing stuff up there will be a weak link until you upgrade everything...the cv is kinda sacrificial to save the other parts from damage, almost like a fuse blowing to protect a circuit

like I said earlier you should be able to upgrade to better cv joints though

im thining that maybe you front end is locked in and wont unlock i had that happen to me when i was in deep mud i could be your cable that acuates the front axle im thinking this becuse its breaking in 2wd and its getting worn out like having it in 4hi on dry pavement check your vacume auator under your battery and see if its engaged if so see if you can get it un stuck or pull the vaccum line and see if it disengages if so you need a new vac switch on your xfer case

if it is the lever 4wd like mine or lock in after u engage it ur supposed (or its good 2) roll back about 15-20 ft to make sure its unengaged, could this be a problem 2?

    Re: cv axles break repeadetly

im pretty sure its disengaging bc when u put it in two and dont back up it still acts like its in 4, but if u do back up it wont do it, the ol bronco is the ford famous Twin Traction beam, talk about a hard vehicle to align, but its basically the same principle as a solid so i guess thats why its strong, does anyone make a manual hub conversion for this truck, i had a 2000 tacoma with the manual hubs and loved them, heck if this think keeps blowin cv's that solid hp 44 i had in store for the bronc may find a home under this thing

not too bad they still droop when i jack it off the ground, its only turned level with the stock rear no blocks, actually its a little below level, i have a buddy with an identical truck with 2 inch blocks and maxed bars and he has had 0 problems

I agree 100%. Although, I don't think they should be breaking that much, there's something else wrong here.

Are the replacements you get rebuilt or new? That could be the problem

Try looking into some reinforced heavy duty cv shafts. Also make sure nothing is tearing into the boots themselves.
