Heated seat not working on Tahoe

I just bought a '98 Tahoe LT and the drivers side heated seat is not working. The other side works just fine. I don't see a fuse for this.

Any suggestions on where to start with this?

    Thanks,

    Jon

check for power at the switch.
    if yes
check power after the switch is turned on
if theres power there, then check at the element... if theres power there then you have a bad element and you need a new one.

if there is no power after the switch they you have a bad switch.

if there is no power at the switch, get a schematic to find where the power comes from... check for power there... run a new wire if need be.

    Best quesses in order..
fuse(theres going to be one somewhere... Im going to check my 98 tahoe for one tomorrow)
    switch
    elelment
    wiring

I had the same thing happen to me in my Yukon. Luckily it was still under warrenty, although it was a battle to get fixed. The heating elements were toast, they were covered under the warrenty. But they are sewn into the leather which is not under warrenty. I had to fight to get my seat redone to get the heated seat to work. Why would GM say they cover a part just to say it's not covered because it's attached to something else.

Re: Heated seat not working on Tahoe

Someone told me the heated seats don't work unless there is someone sitting in it, is this true?

If so, I may have to sit in the seat to diagnose the problem?

    Thanks.

you need to have the seatbelts locked in to get the heated seat to work

In my 1999 escalade it has front and rear heated seats.

The driver seat heater does NOT need the seatbelt connected to work.

All the other three DO require the seat belt to be buckled to complete the circuit in order to make the seats heat up.

left front, no seatbelt needed...99% odds you have a bad element.
(chev service writer) the fuse operates both, so if one works, it's not a fuse.

Thanks for the help. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet (Minnesota winter).

So, worst case its the element...is this hard to replace, and what might me involved the repair?

Sounds too expensive right now. I'll put it on my list, first new stereo, then auto start, then new seats...

(At least my kids are happy with their ipods and stuff)! (My stuff will have to wait)
