I have a 1995 z71/k1500 with a 5.7l, and 5 speed granny transmission, recently replaced the clutch pack and upon start up noticed a whine when in gear or in neutral, the noise goes away when i engage the clutch, have checked the linkage, checked the clutch slave, checked the transfer case, redropped the tranny, everything checks out ok, but noise is still there... only thing i can't rule out is the fluid.... i got the fluid specs at autozone..
GL5 80w90 is what i was told to use... but now the dealer says syntorque fluid...can the difference between synthetic and regular oil make the difference in noise? anyone had this problem? i'm gettin po'd with my truck.

unfortunately it was a sunday, and i had to get the truck back together asap.
figures, az has gone down in the past few years... i'll swap my fluid out. just wondering if the standard oil was making it whine like it was trying to go in gear.
Did you figure this out? My 88 is doing the exact same thing.
On the note of manny tranny fluid, GM synchromesh fluid seems to be the stuff that ton's of people swear by, even the import crowd likes it. Anyways that's what I found out when I was researching to replace my fluid, and it has worked pretty well. Dunno if this helps but thought I'd share.
yeah man, take out the other crap, put in synchromesh.

Just trying to research! Like every other site people don't always say what fixed the problem. Mine does it until i shift into 4th. 5th doesn't whine either. From looking around it seems a little whine is normal, just thought it was odd it only did it in 1,2,3 gears. I also have a little chatter when releasing the clutch that just started when I was driving it home. Just bought it today.
I do plan to put synchromesh in it, might flush it with the pennzoil synchromesh then put the gm stuff after running it a bit.

If you just bought it today, I'd suggest change all the fluids, trans, motor, diffs. changing the fluid in the trans may get rid of it.

yeah, i've already got $150 of making sure it's caught up on preventative maintanence. Just wanted to see if i had a new clutch/flywheel/bearings in my near future.
