Interior lights won't go off? I need some help!

My wife drove our 1999 Chevrolet Suburban (obs) home the other night and the interior lights wouldn't go off, for anything. I tried everything, I even took the whole light control unit out, tore it apart, and it still doesn't work. Anyway, I ordered a new headlamp switch and the lights now won't go off unless we switch on the DOME OVERRIDE. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I've look at the Courtesy Lamps System schematics out of the HAYNES book and it appears that there is an INTERIOR LAMP CONTROL MODULE? Could this have gone out? And if so, where can I order one of these things? Thanks.

When I had my Ford this happened from time to time. I went to the Ford site, and this was a common problem with them all the time.
The fix was, Spray WD40 were the latch is when you open the door. Seems that the senor gets dirty and sticks.
Well after 2 months of trying to figure it out and Ford telling me that I needed a $150 part put in I gave it a try, Worked like a Charm!!!

Just open the door, spray in, open and close a few times and you are good to go. Do for each door. Mine was internment at first, and I figured out that it was the drivers side door.

Give it a shot, Can't Hurt

    Good Luck!!

Open the drivers and pass door and look at the side of the dash. There wiill be a black "pecker" sticking out that you should be able to push in. Either that fell out and is constantly on or the switch itself is bad.

i have been having this problem for a few months,i brought it back to the dealer and they told me it was the 30 second delay.
i had the door switch replaced about a month ago and it solved the problem for a while.
now it`s started up again but now when you push the window switch to raise the window when it is already closed, the interior lights will come on.
same as you ,nothing turns them off but the dome overide button.
i have a 99 yukon and others on this site have had the same prob.

    Sounds like door switches.

Can the temporary delay be turned off? That makes me crazy on new trucks.

One of mine is broken but I always use the dome override.

Thanks everybody. I haven't tried anything, but I will be trying most everything. I've been overworked the past couple of weeks and haven't had time to try anything.

When you have the Dome Override depressed (to keep the light off), does the light go on when you use the remote keyless entry (RKE) keyfob to lock/unlock the doors? If that is the case, then the problem is likely in the RKE module, which is above your right foot when you are driving.

There is a diagnostic routine in the Factory Service Manual which points to this, as has another person or two in the past here. I don't know, however, what the replacement part # is or its cost, as mine is also inop ('99 Yukon). Good luck (and if you find out the part #, please let us know!)

i would like to know this, i keep my override on all the time and just turn the dome on when i need it, i hate that delay, when i close my doors it takes like 10 minutes for the light to shut off, i like the dome in my fathers 95 as soon as the door shuts the light goes off, but i had to get stuck with one that takes 10 minutes.
