    2000 Silverado Starts then Dies

Hi, I am new to this forum and would like to say hello to all and ask a question. I have a 2000 Silverado with a 5.3 engine, when I try to start it, it fires right up and dies instantly. The security light flashes when I open the door and turn on the key, but it goes away in a few seconds. I have had a Key cut to the VIN at the dealer, and I have tried the relearn procedure several times. Does anybody have any thoughts on what it could be?
    Thanks
    Terry

Im not too familliar with the newer models but are you sure it might be something to do with the security sys. on it.Can you here your fuel pump when you turn the key on to see if it is building pressure, because it may be weak.

I have replaced the fuel pump with a new one from Napa. I can hear the pump running. The truck sounds like it is running perfect and not starving for fuel. For a couple seconds at least.

Fuel pressure regulator gone bad? Clogged fuel filter?

Does it do it when hot, cold or both?

Can you keep it running by feathering the gas pedal or no?

Make sure your battery cables are screwed in tight. I had the exact same problem with my old 2000 Z71, so I undid the cables and re-tightened them and the problem never came back.

Yeah, I have cleaned the battery cables and replaced the battery.
I'm just stumped, the local dealer wants $400 to replace the ignition switch and passlock II sensor, but they can't be sure that'll fix it. The big problem is that I'm 30 miles from the dealer. Thanks for you help guys..

Yea, what he asked. Does it run with your foot on the gas?

    I bet its the VATS.

The VATS will allow the truck to run for a coupel seconds, then it kills the injectors and stops the engine from being fueled.

The new key must be introduced to the system.

This is a PDF file that contains all teh different VATS systems relearn protocols.

I had the same issue this morning. Took the truck to the gas station to get a drink and when I went back out to leave the truck started, then started to idle ruff and then just died. I could get it started again if I kept feathering the gas and was able to make it home. The whole time trying to make it home the ABS light, Battery light and Parking brake light would come on and off and headlights would go in and out??? Could all this be fuel pump related? I'm hoping it's just a loose wire somewhere. Any thoughts?

I have the same problem with my NBS 2000 Suburban. This is the second time it's done it. Tooke me 10 minutes to finally get it started. A friend of mine suggested that maybe the crank sensor may be on it's way out but I'm getting no codes.

My pump was replaced 1 1/2 years ago and a full tune-up has been done this year. I know that sometimes when I drive and floor it, it will sputter and it will sometimes sputter and want to die when I take off from a stand still but then it will be perfectly fine.

Checked your connections between the alternator and battery?
