think you need to modify your govener in the tranny...know you can buy spring and wieght packs for the r4 ....could always grab one out of the same vehicle gm truck at a wreckers and just swap it in..may get lucky...look for vehicle with same motor and gears ect

I think (and I may be wrong) you need the ECM/PCM from the donor car. Every swap like this I have been involved with, we took the computer with the motor/trans. In this case, I would imagine the harnesses would be a direct match. Just speculating, is the donor still around ?

He used an 89 700R4 not a 4L60E. The governor only controls WOT shifts and the adjustment is critical for normal driving up shifts.v The engines prior to the 4L60E have no control over the transmission. The 87 - 92 used a ECM not a PCM.
Try getting the TVS cable adjusted correctly. Push down on the tab and pull the rear outer cable rearward as far as possible release the tab and without starting engine push throttle to the floor. It should be correctly adjusted.

    gatliff,

What redvett01 said is the correct techinal procedure. Sometimes on older trucks it doesn't always work just right.

If you're getting late shifts, after depressing the adjustment tab, move the tv cable housing forward about 1/8", or so, at a time until it shifts like you want. Vice versa, for early shifts. Forward for quicker, softer shifts, rearward for harder, later shifts.

Hope this helps. If this doesn't work, you may have other problems.

    Good luck,
