Hey guys, I got another problem on my 1997 Chevy c1500, 2WD, 5.7Vortec with AUTO tranny. It seems that my engine is outta whack... First all I had was stumbling at 1500-1600RPM on 4th gear. Now tt idles very rough, and its giving me 2 DTC', P0101 and P0300. P0101 is a Mass Air Flow Sensor DTC and P0300 is Random Misfire. Thinking me cleaning my Volant air filter made my MAF sensor go off and cause the DTC??

Had a performance tranny service 15K ago,
    new coil 20K ago,
new spark plugs/wires/fuel filter 1K ago,
recently cleaned air filter (Volant)50 miles ago
replaced all 8 injectors 50K ago
    New Fuel Pump 50K ago

only thing I have not serviced yet is the engine oil that has 2700 miles on it and I change it every 3K. Any ideas guys?

Could my MAF cause the rough idle and misfiring? How can I test it?

How many miles are on the truck? Hows your fuel pressure? Im thinking maybe a fuel pump starting to go out.

203000 miles on the truck, all freeway miles, never pushed hard and always dealer maintained every 3000 miles. Everything has been changed when it needs to be.

Check your fuel pressure. The supply and return lines are located on the driver side. You'll see a plastic cap and underneath it is the schrader valve. Unscrew the cap and hook up a fuel pressure guage. Start the engine - should read 55-62 psi. Anything below 50 replace the pump and fuel filter. The truck won't start or run at 44 or less so if you're approaching this number replace.

If it only happens in 4th it could be the Tranny as well. You torgue converter clutch could be slipping of the 4 gear apply band. Has the Tranny been rebuilt yet??

Tranny has yet to be rebuilt from my records. But today I had it "put putting" at the same RPM at 2nd gear and reverse. So Far im going to check my fuel pressure, EGR valve, Vacuum Lines, connecters from my O2 sensors to my Map, electrical sensors, Air Flow Sensor gate and I am going to add some Fuel Injection cleaner... Any more suggestions?

Have you put in the trans-go shift kit yet? I think it may address something like that with O/D. Have you had it hooked up to a scanner when shifting to O/D? It will tell you if the command is being sent or if it's being told to unlock for some reason.

Re: Yet another problem on my Chevy C1500, engine stumbling

I put in Champion spark plugs, fuel pump was replaced by Dealer, have not put in a shift kit but i upgraded the shift points with my Hypertech Programmer, I have not put any sensors to it while driving..

Today I got a whole new bag of worms. Problem went from "annoying" to "HUGE PROBLEM!". Today while on the HWY the engine went out of wack and runs rough and SUPER rough at idle, hardly stays on. I have 2 DTC's , P0300 and P101. P0300 is a misfire and P0101 is Mass Air Flow System Performance. Any ideas?

I would say swap out your MAF and see what happens.

Also, could a messed up MAF sensor be affecting my earler engine stumbling at 1500-1600 and now my super rough idle and super rich fuel mixture?

Yes your MAF definitely could do that. Do you have a friend with a similar truck? That would be the easiest. If not then a scan tool would be the next best way.

Edit: You could try spraying your MAF with electronics cleaner. Its a long shot but it might help. Do you have a K&N air filter?

yes. you can try cleaning it as suggested, but its likely the cause. not a whole lot else will cause a p0101...

the intake hose is on correctly and all hose clamps are tight, right?

I just cleaned my Volant air filter with the K&N recharge kit, so I have messed with the intake hoses and clamps, but the truck did not have any "Check Engine" lights on until after the problem switched from the annoying "put putting" to the very rough idle and rich fuel mixture.
