Hook up a vacuum gauge. That's going to give you the best info on where to start. No carb is going to run right out of the box. I'd run the delco's. Bosch plugs are about worthless.

i have a 600 manual edelbrock carb on a 350 5.7
it was a TBI motor but i changed it to carb.
the carb is running way too rich. spark plugs are black
and truck is smoking.i have a holley red electric fuel pump also.
do i need to change the jets as someone suggested to me?
i dont think the pump is pushing too much gas. i burned up bosch platinums. should i get delco or ngk? any help will be appreciated

gap the delco's at 35. if you haven't adjusted your carb yet you are going to need to lol. you can call the help line for edelbrock and they will give you some advice.

I see in the pics you sent me no choke on it.
to adjust the two fuel mixture screws on the front of the carb your gonna need a vacuum guage or handheld tach.

the manual might not be the same for the carb but the procedures to adjust the idle mixture screws are the same.

Do you have a fuel pressure regulator on it?? If not I would at least make sure to check the pressure at the carb inlet to make sure that you are not over pressuring the carb. I.E this will cause a rich condition that may seem like the carbs fault. You should only have about 5-7psi i believe. Anything higher is going to cause problems with the needle and seat and foat levels. Wich will cause a rich condition and maybe hard starting. Im sure that you dont need to change the jets. I have used many edelbrock carbs including the thunder series from 600 to 800cfm on mild to moded motors with very good results out of the box. You just need to set up the idle screw's correctly for a clean idle and everything should be good. Just my thoughts.

im gonna go change the plugs now
i was told the red holley pump puts out
7 psi. should i buy a regulator anyway?
Definitely get a FPR in there, the electric pumps always seem to put out too much.

there are two screws on each side of the carb turn clockwise to run more lean turn counterclockwise to let more air in.. i would start simple first
To LA'GIT to QUIT!!!
i turned the 2 screws to make it as lean as possible. changed the plugs to ngk's because napa here doesnt carry them.
what a difference. i could feel it when i took off. truck started right up. less smoke too. i will pick up a regulator this weekend. better safe than sorry. thanks guys
Seriously, a vacuum gauge is going to take the guess work out. They are cheap and super useful.

On the edelbrock carbs you dont turn both screws the same direction to lean each side out the turn in for lean and out for Richer etc. They are at the front of the. I guess you found them though. Get that fpr installed and set the pressure to 6psi-happy medium. Then with the engine up to full temp at idle set your idle mixture screws for the highest idle vacume and then turn them a 1/4turn richer. That will be your best lean idle setting. What is your base timing set at?? As well as your engine mods/cam specs?

Turning the screws adjusts the idle mixture only. You need a fuel pressure regulator, eddys only like 5-6psi max. Other then that all tuning is explained both in the users manual and the online users manual on the company web site. Sounds to me like you need a jet change, but you might get away with a rod change only.
