Sorry no ideas, but I was about to post with the same problem on my 2004. I was wondering if was because the pads were getting worn.

I have had the same problem. Since it is always the outside pads that rattle, I use CRC Disc Brake Quiet. You just put a dab on the back side if the pad that sets against the brake caliper.

    Angry Re: Rattling Brake Pads!

Has any one found a fix?
I have an 06 2500HD and have the same problem.

I brought mine into the dealer to get this fixed, and they did temporarily. They installed premium brake shoes with new clips........BUT they don't last.

Somebody has to have a fix, Please help us out or we might go MAD!

I would always bend the 2 tabs on each of the
outter brake pads to reduce the amount of free play between the caliper and pads.

    Re: Rattling Brake Pads!

mattillac has your answer. i own a 91 c1500 and a 90 sub and unless you buy dealer pads you will need to bend the tabs a little bit. the sub did it first and drove me nuts ,they would rattle till you hit the brakes ,take off and they rattle .ride the brakes wouldn't rattle .they both are rattle free, hope that helps

    Re: Rattling Brake Pads!

Hey guys, I spoke with a friend of mine that is a mechanic, after inspecting my front brakes, he noticed that the calipers were worn on the bolts. He told me the fix would consist of buying new calipers, bolts and brackets.
Not that I don't trust him, but has anyone heard this?

And does anyone know where can I get a good cheap set of calipers? (online)

    Thanks

    Re: Rattling Brake Pads!

My 2001 does this too and has for about 2 years. It started shortly after I replaced my front rotors, calipers, and pads. I used new napa rotors, and pre-loaded napa calipers. Got about six months and now my pads rattle everytime I hit a bump unless I ride the brakes. Took it to the dealer(one of two shops on the island i live on), and they told me I needed a new nickel plated slip-yoke. The guy said it was the same sound as the clunk I hear when I go from reverse to drive at a stop. I told him not to get me started because that was a whole different rattle that I'm use to hearing.

Long story short I have learned to live with it. After the dealer trip I used some high temp insta-gasket to adhere the pads to the calipers but it didn't last. If anyone has a fix let me know. I replaced the rear brake backing plates cause they rotted away and now there seems to be noise in the rear too. ughhh.

Replace the slide bolts and install anti-rattle shims or kits. It should fill up that extra little space that causes this noise.

    Re: Rattling Brake Pads!

I've done the anti-rattle clip fix on my 98 and my dad's 2500HD. it certainly helps alot and should have been something they had from the factory LOL

I'd also make sure your caliper mounting bolts are properly torqued as well. I had a rattle on my civic. when i checked to see what it could be it turned out i was rather stupid and didn't torque the bolts down to spec and they were allowed a little bit of play and rattle. Which meant it rattled alot, cuz it was lowered and had a very stiff yet extremely fun suspension.
