    4.3 Stalls immediately after starting

Wondering if you knowledged folks would be able to help me with my father's s10 blazer issue. He has a 1992 blazer with the 4.3 TBI engine. It will start, then immediately die. Only way to keep it running, is to hold your foot on the pedal until it warms up.

We checked the IAC, that was fine. We then found the connector to the TPS was loose. When we jiggled the connector it would idle up/down. We replaced the connector, but it still has the idle problem. When we disconnect the TPS, it idles without stalling.

We replaced the TPS but still no luck. It seems like the TPS isn't getting any power to it. Isn't the sensor suppose to move around with different throttle positions? It doesn't do anything.

We checked for vacuum leaks and could not find any.

Where should we be looking next? There is no Check Engine light unless we have the TPS disconnected.

I have had the same problem on 2 different TBI trucks, one I swapped a carb onto it and the second one is still sitting here

I'll keep my eyes on this and see what you find out. I never could fix it..

May have something to do with the CTS. Coolant temp sensor. Not for the guage. For the computer. It should be right by the t-stat. If it thinks the engine is colder then what it is, it will make it run rich, if it thinks it's warmer it will run lean.

Also wouldn't hurt to check the MAF sensor. Think your's should be on the firewall.

I am also not sure about yours, but some TPS's have to be adjusted when they are put on.

Might try cleaning the TBI too.

MAP sensor? 92 is too early for a MAF sensor.

I have the same year model and engine. I didn't see a MAP or MAF of any sort. I have the circular air filter that sits on the TBI. Mine dies right after starting as well. I keep the RPM's up a bit until it warms up. It doesn't do the idle up/down thing though.

    I meant MAP.
I think don't quote me I don't have anything to look at, but their is a vac line off the TBI, that goes to the MAP sensor, you may have to drop by a parts store and ask to see one to locate it.

Fuel pump? or maybe fuel pressure regulator? Sounds like a fuel delievery problem.

This one is for the Blazer, but for you USAF20YRS, if it dosen't look identical it will be very close.
Also for both of you, it may look slightly different anyway, cause it's not a factory sensor.

My TBI trucks have all had a MAP sensor that looked like that...

I can't remember the symptoms, but I think the fuel pressure regulator could cause this? I'm not sure though. It is mounted in the bottom of the TBI unit on the back.

I'm puzzled by your description of the TPS - is the sensor not responding to changes in throttle plate position? If disconnecting it corrects the problem it points to a bad sensor or sensor circuit.

Have you checked the obvious - battery and alternator connections/cables, spark plugs?

Re: 4.3 Stalls immediately after starting

Yea, sorry for the confusion on the TPS. The TPS my father thought, was a mechanism that bumped the idle up, like a choke in cold weather. No, all it does is send information back to the computer based on throttle position (hence the name throttle positioning sensor). We found the test procedures for the TPS via a multimeter and the voltage checks are fine. But yes, for some reason, when the TPS is disconnected, the idle is higher and therefore it does not stall out after starting.

Truck runs strong and smooth at higher rpms. As soon as it drops back to idle, it stalls out. It will turn over, but it won't restart unless throttle is applied.

needs to be scanned to look at data, especially TPS/coolant sensor. The IAC sounds like the culprit but with the TPS disconnected and idling it dosent.
