I emailed the person selling that same distributor and asked about it. He said that the cap, rotor, and the internal sensor are all aftermarket and that the gear is stronger than the original ones. Take that for what its worth. I'm thinking about getting one for my 98 454. Let me know if you get one and how you like it.Originally Posted by jdnz28
There is also a billet aluminum dist. on ebay that uses GM parts for the sensor and gears. Not sure about the cap and rotor though. Its $250.

I would suggest replacing the dizzy gear if it shows wear but I wouldn't spend the money on a new dizzy if the current one isn't broken. You don't have to take the intake off to replace it. In fact, it comes out before taking the intake off.

Along with the gear, another problem with the OEM distributor is that the main housing is made of plastic. The distributor cap screw hole gets stripped with no easy way to repair it.
If you buy the new distributor, let us know how it works out.
Also, make sure you have a way to set the "CAM retard" for the distributor after it is installed.

Sorry, no idea but the labor should not be over 1/2 hour (I'm guessing). You might want to make a phone call and get an estimate and post your findings here.Originally Posted by jdnz28

I've been running that dizzy for a while now. No complaints whatsoever.

I think I paid ~$40 for just the gear a couple of years ago.
I'm running one of those dizzy's from Alex (ignition DK).
No issues here. Sure beats the plastic OEM crap!

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T
MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE
DUCT TAPE.
