Exclamation Help! Wheel bearing race is stuck in axle tube!

Long story short, the outer race of my rear wheel bearing is stuck in the axle tube. Part of the lip holding the bearings in broke while trying to pull it out with a slide hammer, now I've got just the race stuck in the tube.

Anyone have any idea how to get this thing out?

There used to be tool fo tthis, haven't seen one in a while.

Basically, it's a slide hammer with piece of metal on the end that swivels and catches behind the race in the tube.

Couple good whacks an it's out.

I'l see if I can google an image...

Slide hammer should still catch on the edge of the race. Add heat and it should come out.

I've also used a welder for stubborn bearing races before.

Run a bead around the bearing surface at a good high heat, when it cools the bearing shrinks and usually drops right out...

That's what we've got, but the swivel head is too small to go between the lips of the race without the bearings in.

Welder is out of the question, I've got a propane torch, though. I tried it but I was heating up the axle tube more than I wanted to and making no progress on the race.

For anyone who this may happen to in the future, as a last resort, a dremel tool with a tungsten carbide cutting tip will cut through the bearing outer race pretty quickly. Just be careful not to cut through to the axle tube.
