What kind of fluid in transfer case?

Well i finally dropped my old tranny, have the new one installed, just need to bolt back in the transfer case. Most of the fluid in the t-case spilled all over the garage. What kind of fluid does this take? I am assuming atf. Which i have also read searching google. I am using dexron VI in the tranny, was going to use the same in the transfer case. But i have Truetrac. Does this mean i need a different kind of fluid designed for limited slip? Or does the limited slip oil go in the differentials? haha i am so confused.

If you have Autotrac you must use the GM blue fluid but if you have just a pushbutton transfer case then it should use ATF look in your Owners manual.

Like redvette said, Autotrak takes the GM specific, blue in color fluid. If you have push buttons for the transfer case AND it has an "auto 4hi" button, then it probably takes the blue stuff. Always double check the tag on the back of the transfer case to determine what you have and reference that model with the recommended fluid before you head out to buy fluid. If it doesn't require the blue stuff, then it more than likely take ATF 3 or 6, whichever you prefer.

    I have push button 4wd. 4hi and 4lo.
My truetrac was installed when i regeared from the stock 3.73's to the precision 4.56's. It doesnt have gm's autotrack. And the fluid i drained from the case was red, so i am assuming it was atf.

Autotrac is auto 4x4 which you do not have you just have push button 4x4 and it uses ATF. Truetrac is not a GM OEM product its aftermarket and has nothing to do with the transfer case.

Red stuff came out, then red stuff goes back in. Sounds like yours takes regular ATF.
