96 4.3 vortec to 97 5.7 vortec in 96 Z71. 5.7 harness and computer completed during swap. Process went well, except no fire to plugs. Fire from coil, but not to plugs. Plugs are new, wires are good, new cap and rotor, and dizzy was set to gmc specs. All sensors check out good also. If we had spark to plugs, I think the 5.7 would start...This motor ran like a sewing machine before being pulled from rollover. Any ideas????

If you have fire at the coil wire in the center of the distributer and no fire at the plugs it could mean the roter is not turning for some reason...broke distributor shaft or some crazy thing I have never seen a chevy do. I guess it would be possible for the gear on the end to shear the pin holding it on right guys? Maybe take the cap off and watch the distributor rotor turn while you turn the truck over to rule that out?

Am I understanding this right - piston number 1 at TDC on compression stroke, but rotor directing spark to #8? That isn't going to work. Think you need to re-stab your distributor. Do you have spark at all to any cylinder?

You getting fire to the plug wires at the cap? This might some how be a bad rotor still.

we checked the contact on the rotor. It appears to make contact. We even took another spare rotor and bent it a bit upwards to make sure. No difference
    Thx 92

So just to be clear, You have a spark from the coil wire to the distributor cap, and nothing comming out of the wire plugs on the cap? What method are you using to test this? Sorry to ask similar questions, just trying to help.
