I have a 1988 Chevy C1500 and I need to know what my transmission fluid capacity is. So if anyone knows that would be greatly appreciated. Also, what kind I should use, and if there are any good additives.

about 5-6 quarts just for a pan drop. Use either Dexron 3 or GMs latest fluid. Dont use any additives.

    Re: Automatic transmission fluid capacity

Are you just changing the fluid and filter in the pan?

its easy just unbolt the pan disconnect the shift cable and let the pan drop carefully and fluid will pour out...then romove the filter giving it a pull down and replace with a new one...clean pan and gasket real good and then reinstall pan...after tightening all bolts and connecting the shift cable refill through dipstick tube start with 5 quarts and check

I would only use 3-4 quarts if your droping the pan you dont want to over fill it, then Id get it up to temp and add if you need to.

    Re: Automatic transmission fluid capacity

Ok, that's all I'm trying to do. My gears aren't responding very quickly when I drop into reverse. So i'm hoping that will fix it.
