hey guys the front seal on my transfercase is leaking. so i pulled the driveshaft out but cant break the nut on the yoke free. so i hit it with pb parts blaster and am gonna let it soak. my question is
can i still drive the truck without the front driveshaft in??? i plan on trying the nut again tomarrow maybe with a little heat but want it to soak good over night in parts blaster. but i still need to get to school and work tomaarrow so im asking to see if i can still drive it...

    thanks guys

as long as it's not a a4wd/awd truck, you will be fine, a little more risk with an a4wd truck, but still ok, but don't consider it in a awd truck

ok cool. i dont know if ill even be able to get this nut off. i tried the impact gun on it.... just short blips to try and loosen it up (didnt hold it long, wasent sure if it would mess up the t-case) and i tried a 3/4 inch breaker bar, nothing. pb parts blaster is some amazing stuff but that nut is tight!!!!!

mix a 50/50 mix of acetone and tranny fluid in a spray bottle. it is a great penatrating oil,

Does your truck have the push button 4X4 transfer case with the auto 4x4 option.? I have the auto 4x4 transfer case and was thinking of pulling the drive shaft to troubleshoot a vibration problem.(2000, 1500)

is it the big flange/yoke nut like 1-1/4 inch size? If so I always use an impact and zap it off, I had to regear my monte ss and that's what I used since the thing would turn otherwise, a breaker bar wouldn't work with it turning, tried to make the car move.

Yea push button with auto, 2hi, 4hi, 4lo.

before you pull the shaft, have your tires balanced, check your pitman and idler arm, check your bearings, balljoints tie rods. etc. common things.

but the front shaft is relatively easy to remove.
