your gonna have to check the wiring/connector going into the transmission.
which gears is it missing? slipping?etc. ie starts in 4th might be a selenoid issue in the transmission. take it in or get a wire diagram.

So you're blowing the TRANS fuse, 10 amp at the bottom left of the panel?

It's a single pink wire supplying power through the harness to the large round connector on the transmission.

Could be damage in that wire somewhere along the line, or could be a problem internal to the transmission.

****, whoever owned my truck before myself had a 30amp fuse in it. my trans was in limp mode, pulled the fuse and half of the plastic fuse case had started to melt.

now i'm going to find that pink wire and see where it is melted at

Re: transmission fuse keeps blowing out

My 95 Tahoe just started this problem, blowing the 10am fuse #20(TRANSMISSION).

I had just used my 4Hi lever in the truck, first time in months. It didn't blow right then, but a few miles down the road; I noticed that the speedometer, tach, and gear selector light were all out. I pulled over, and turned off the truck. After restarting, I went to put it in drive, and it would barely move.

Found out later that the fuse was blown, and the transmission was starting out in 3rd, not 1st. Reverse still works, and I can manually shift to second gear, and 3rd gear. Of course this happened when I was 60 miles from home, so I limped the truck home, and have it in the garage now.

So far, I have disconnected the two plugs on the side of the transmission, and the two plugs on the rear tail, and transfer case, and the number 20 fuse is still blowing instantly when you turn the car on?

I was kinding hoping it was going to be the shift solenoid(s) but now that they are disconnected, and the fuse is still blowing, I don't know what else it could be?

I looked it up on my "ALLDATAdiy.com" account, and found that the #20 fuse connects directly to the transmission shift solenoids, and that is all the schematic shows. However, the speedo, tach, gear selection indicator are also not working, so they are affected by the same fuse, but it is not listed on the schematic I have.

Does anyone have the full schematic of the 1995 Tahoe? Or maybe can someone point me in the correct direction as to what would be the most likely place for this short?

This is my daily driver, and it is not very drivable right now. All input would be greatly appreciated

Re: transmission fuse keeps blowing out

Well it's not the ignition switch.

Found the wire at the ignition switch and cut it. Fuse #20 holds good, with truck running, and the wire cut.

Applied power to the harness side of the wire through an external 10 amp fuse(by passing the ignition switch) and the fuse blows.

So it is something down line of the ignition switch.

    Still open to ideas.....Please!

Re: transmission fuse keeps blowing out

OK, I found a 5th plug on the transmission, it was round, and on the passenger side. My short is coming from in there.

Not fixed yet, but at least it is narrowed down to one area.
