There's a special tool, looks like the tool used to separate fuel and air conditioning lines except it's a little longer.

Hey , just my input here ... but a buddy of mine has an NBS and lost his heat as well. We changed the cold air door motor and he got banging heat back in his truck.
Step 1: remove the cover that covers the heater box and pass side floor area below the glove box. (3 10mm bolts)
Test 2: locate the small motor directly under the heater box (very accessible) move heater control from cold to warm and place ur finger under the motor, half the shaft that controls the door sticks out far enuff under the motor to feel it move.
Step3: replace it if it doesnt make a full 90 degree turn.

I have all OBS or I would provide pictures .... We flushed his heater core too and still nothing ... replaced the motor and it worked. The door controls fresh/cold air comming into the heater vents.

Try the "blend door" reset procedure !
As easy as pulling the fuses..............

The correct procedure is posted around here somewhere!

For someone in the future trying to fix their heater also, I just back flushed the heater core and my heater seems to work great right now

    this tool: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...&blockType=G24

will work to remove the quick connect at the heater core hose at the firewall, they carry the tool at kragen/orieleys, sears happened to have a nice pic tho

    Sears has these too:

Hope GM started making the quick connect heater fitting out of something better than that cast junk they cursed us with on the GMT400's.

GMT800's have PLASTIC quick connects on the hoses to connect to the heater core, they break all the time

Re: how to remove quick connects

you dont need to remove the quick connects just get yourself a pair of pliers and open the clamp and pull the hoses off.

here is a pic of the clamps just squeeze them and the hose will come off. this is how i took my hoses off my 2000nbs to flush my core or your you could also take the hoses loose down at the pump and flush it that way with a water hose
