Well my truck has been idle really high on start ups and i read around and diagnosed it as the idac.So I watched bunches of videos on how to clean it.Being the diy i am i tackled the task of cleaning it.I got it all pretty then when i installed it to see if worked the damn thing is a dud now The truck will not run at all,I just dont understand what could have made it stop working i did nothing different from anyone else when i cleaned it.

I now have to go and spend 60 bucks when i didnt even need too

Did you reset the EMC? When you do that it commands the IAC fully closed, if not done that could be the reason it won't start. Also make sure that the plug is in all the way, it's fairly common for the clip to break. I recently dealt with my IAC valve and just ended up getting a new one, it was worth the sixty bucks.

yeah, i disconnected the battery cables to reset it after it wouldnt run.I also got curious and unscrewed the plug and cranked the truck with it hanging out.I saw the valve moving in and out so I honestly don't understand why its not working right.

Do the spring and pintle move (by hand)? Hopefully you let it dry after cleaning

And you did the whole idle relearn process, right? Not just taking off the neg?

Relearn process: disconnect battery for at least 30 seconds to clear memory. Reconnect battery. Jumper A&B terminals on diag connector same as if you're going to read codes. Turn key ON but do not start engine. Leave on 30 seconds. (at this time the ECM is commanding the IAC fully closed and leaves it there, and sets in memory that it's in the full closed position) Turn key off. Disconnect A&B jumper.

The A&B port (by your left knee) in that picture. You need to have a paper clip in them for it to work. You'll notice the SES light flashing in the dash, normal

You should perform an IAC relearn any time you:
    1. Turn the key on with the IAC disconnected
    2. Even slightly affect the position of the IAC pintle (like removing for cleaning)
    3. Replace the IAC

So you have an OBDII port, not OBDI. I don't know of the relearn process for the 97, nor if there even is one. Somebody more knowledgeable than I will chime in soon with the cure to your issue.

I've cleaned a couple Vortec IAC and one TBI IAC. Never did any relearn procedure.

Well I know I had to do an idle relearn on mine, but it's also an 88 with a TBI.

Is does reset itself after 100 miles or so.

The TBI-era IAC is "dumb" - the ECM has no idea where its position really is; it depends on an assumed position from an initial base setting and then history of its movements since.

well,i got the new one in and it runs fine but i noticed something i was doing last night that may have made it not work.I was leaving the air intake off, which imo is why the old wasn't running the truck. So i kept the old one for a rainy day.
