Recommendations for Vortec 5.7 spark plug wires?

I installed a set of the Summit Racing $30 wires, MSD Cap and rotor, and NGK U-groove plugs when I first bought my Suburban a year ago.

It has been getting more and more sluggish lately and yesterday I did a redneck dual exhaust so I could actually hear the motor(cut the muffler off and installed 2 glasspacks w/ no tailpipes for now).

Yep, it has a slight miss that seems to come and go at different RPMs; sometimes it will idle rough and other times it will only start running rough when I go up in RPMs. The motor will even cut out at freeway speeds every now and then...

I thought maybe a weak coil, so I installed an Accel coil yesterday and no change.

I've cleaned and de-screened the MAF and replaced everything in the ignition system, so I'm left with the possibility that the ignition wires may be causing issues. I noticed the Summit wires didn't fit very well and I wasn't able to route them properly.

I'm thinking about upgrading to a higher end wire and was wondering what are some of the ones you guys have run with good results...

Descreening the Maf is going to hurt performance. Plug wires are strickly preference as there all so close in performance, when using the good brands. Same with plugs, cheap copper plugs (ngk) work great for me.

So do you have datalogging information to back your descreening Maf idea? Cause I have seen datalogging with it descreened and it indeed hurts performance.

I was just checking them out on Summit; I'll have to screw around some more with the Summit wires before I pull the trigger, but Taylor looks like what I'll be going with...

agreed, the screen is there to straiten out the air so volume is measured correctly

I had a 100% new MSD dizzy, started truck up once, and coil died, no joke.

Slapped a OEM HEI that had been sitting on the shelf for 15 years, drove truck for months.

For plugs, AC Delco only. Wires, AC Delco or Napa's Blue Max by Belden.

I'm thinking the screen on the MAF is there for a couple reasons. Most importantly, straighten airflow for proper readings - as mentioned. Also, it would protect the MAF from debris.....

AC Delco plugs and wires, they fit right and get the job done at the end of the day. If you want aftermarket I would go with MSD. They make wires for 8,000 hp top fuel dragsters that are running ignitions with enough power to light your house up. Check everything first, you may have another engine related problem i.e. fuel filter, egr, injection spider, etc. I have seen too many aftermarket parts that are of poor quality, alot of them are sold with "romance" and "you need this" advertising.

Re: Recommendations for Vortec 5.7 spark plug wires?

Delphi wires (or anything else they make)......... look the number up on the Delphi website, and then do a search on Amazon for them. They will be the OEM wires....... probably the same as AC Delco, but not necessarily. Delphi has lost business to other companies such as Denso, so newer GM vehicle have less Dephi content, but for the GMT-400's Delphi makes a lot.

Several years ago I bought a set of AC Delco wires on ebay for cheap and stored them until I needed them. The seller bought them, and then sold his Suburban.
