well the problem ive run into when coolant is leaking from the weap hole on the pump is that the bearings in the pump are going out. ive replaced the pump and had no further issues. i installed a stewart stage 2 water pump on mine for more flow and havnt had any cooling issues since

A rebuilt pump is like 18.00 from oriellys. Replace.

A word of advise though, those pumps aren't coated even if they look like they are. I threw mine on bare and it rusted in a week. Throw a coat of paint on it. And make sure you keep the pulley studs and any fittings from your old pump.

I wouldn't buy the cheapest pump you can find. You may end up changing it again in 6 months.

+1 on the paint. It'll look so much better that way.

I though you were talking about the truck in your sig. On a newer model I'm sure the pump will be more expensive.

Right around $85-$100 for a rebuilt pump. I had a similar problem, the pump wasn't leaking out of the shaft or weep hole it was leaking out of the impeller cover on the back of the pump. Swapped it out with a parts store reman unit. Got just about a year out of it and had to change it again, this time it was coming out of the weep hole. Glad it was warranted. But the new pump comes with both gaskets and the thermostat oring. Doesn't take long depending on how mechanically inclined you are.

    Worst advice ever.

Don'y purchase any of that refurbished **** from Auto Zone, Oriellys, etc.

Get an AC Delco, and be done with it.

The AC Delco will probably be refurbished too........ my alternator was. It will hopefully be better rebuilt than some others, Though.

If the LS pumps are anything like the traditional SBC and BBC pumps I wouldn't replace it if it's just the back cover........ I'd just replace the back cover gasket.

I've been down that road of buying parts like water pumps, alternators, etc. from Auto Zone.

I bought a water pump for my tuned port motor back in the day from Auto Zone. Installed it, and literally, it was leaking worse then the one I took off.

I've yet to have an issue with Delco products.

My Autozone pump has been on my truck for 5 years now. Just DO NOT BUY THE REBUILT PUMP!!! If you look closely at many of these rebuilt pumps, you will see that the housing has been ground down where the radiator hose attaches. It leaves the housing VERY thin. They can rot through quickly at that point. A new pump gets you an entirely new housing. That's what I installed. Plus, I got a lifetime warranty on it. Delco won't do that. However, they DO make a good pump. On my truck, the original pump actually had a whole in the back plate. It wasn't leaking at the seal.

That 18.00 pump has been on for almost a year now and I haven't had an ounce of trouble with it. I was strapped for cash at the moment so I went with the cheapest option possible, looking back I would have gotten the lifetime warranty that was a few dollars more.

Just my two cents. Water pumps are the one part from the parts chains I haven't had problems with. I've replaced a few beginning with my first car, a 76 Delta 88. Their rebuilt starters and alternators are dog****, but they offer new stuff that works pretty well. The problem is they don't stock new stuff much, and if you're in a pinch, you're stuck with rebuilds. Go to the stealer, uh I mean the dealer for more sensitive parts, but a simple water pump from autozone should be fine.

    +1 on painting it.

I also used studs and nuts to install it. It made it much easier to get the gaskets on without sliding out of place while fishing for the bolt hole.
