ok im rebuilding a 350 tbi and i pretty much got it tore down... all thats left is the crank and pistons to come out... question i have is do i have to remove the ridge in the cylinder before removing the piston or can i just take it out as it is... the pistons wont be reused so im not worried about them just dont want to hurt the cylinder wall

could you tell me if a simple honing of the cylinders will remove the ridge or will it have to be removed with a ridge reamer
They should ream the ridge before honing if it's done at a machine shop i would think

easy way to remove the pistons....unbolt all of the connecting rods...undo main caps pull the crank...then pull the pistons out of the bottom

My machinist says that the owner reaming the ridge messes up the block.
How does one over ream the block the reamer is designed so it just makes the ridge line up with the cylinder unless you have a hack ass reamer you
Will be fine

and i have done this to a bunch of motors...i used to work in a machine shop...all you have to do is lube the wall up with oil and it wont scar them..chances are if he is tearing it down at this point being logical about it would be to bore it 30 over anyway.. why run oversize rings with new pistons..if your going to buy new pistons why not spend the $150 to get it bored and honed
I'm quite sure that he knows how to remove pistons If you read the thread he's asking if reaming the ridge is necessary before removing the pistons, you can take the pistons out from the bottom if you so please to all depends on what your doing with the crank
