I have been researching and googling this tirelessly the last few hours, as far as i can tell my spark plug gap is .060, but to make things more confusing for me, i read some stuff that a service bulletin recommended gapping to .040" instead of the oem recommended. Is this true for my year of vortec?
Also curious what i should be looking at as far as spark plug reach. When i search spark plugs on summit racing it comes up with several different options that fit my truck, some with a reach of .708" and some with .691" and .690". Are these so close that it wont matter?

The reaches are so close that it doesn't matter.

I believe .040 is the spark plug gap you should be using.

Stay with the 0.060", thats what the factory spec is. The coil used on the vortec is significantly hotter than teh TBI trucks. Its teh same coil as used on the LT1/4 LT1's.
The reachon the Vortec and non Vortec ehad is different and is known to cause issues if mixed. But the specs you supply are pretty close and shoudlnt matter I would think.

Does the .040" bulletin not apply to my year of vortec? Another instance where one guy says 060, another says 040. Is anyone running .040"in their obs 5.7 liter?

A new spark plug has been released for use in the above vehicles. The new spark plug has an Iridium tip instead of the current Platinum tip. Due to the different tip design, the gap of the spark plug has also changed. The new spark plug, P/N 12571164 with AC Delco P/N 41-985, is gapped to 1.01mm (0.040 inches) when the spark plug is made. The spark plug gap is set during manufacturing and should not be changed or damage to the spark plug may result. Any new spark plug found to not be properly gapped should not be used.
