i got one of the 3 ton jacks from harbor freight and it actually has been really good. If ur looking for something cheap thats a good choice i think, just get some good jackstands also so ur not sitting on the jack all the time

I also have a Harbour Freight aluminium jack, it has worked great. I've had it about 2 or 3 years.

I have the craftsman jack in the link below. 4 Ton capacity and lifts just under 20 inches. $160 Sounds great right?

It has leaked since the first month. Online reviews show it's not just me. Dont buy it!

But to answer your original question. 20" lift is perfect for a stock half ton 4x4.

Harbor Freight sells what they call a long frame floor jack with 31" of lift and 2.5 ton capacity. They basically take their 5ton floor jack and make the lift arm longer. It lowers the load capacity, but is the only jack I could find that would lift an entire end of my truck off the ground. It was only around $100 on sale with a 20% off coupon. The valve nob at the top is clunky and the cast material holding the handle in with a clamping bolt does not look the strongest to me, but I have had it for years with no problems thus far.
