Ok here's my question I have a 5.3 ltz with 3.73 gear 8"lift and 35tires/20wheels, Im going to take a trip up to Tenn. mountains (windrock/coal creek) with my rhino(1200# rhino and probably 13-1500#single axle trailer)
should I worry about the strain on the trans or will it pull just fine without temps to high? I obviously know it can tow it, it's not the load Im so much worried about but the length of time driving with the load tire/wheels this is a 12hour trip there and 12hour trip back, would you guys do it with this set up(tires/wheels/lift)? or am I just worrying to much??? A couple of buddies say that Im crazy this is nothing for this truck but it's long trip and I have heard horror stories with over working the tranny??
thanks

then i say go for it. just use common sense and dont let it get over 210 ever. once you go over 210 the heat cuts the fluid life in 1/2 by e every ten degrees. you end up with a smoked tranny fast
yeah that would suck, well I guess I have no choice either way if I want to get up there to ride in the mountains, I thought about renting a tahoe just for the trip avoiding the wear and tare on my own vehicle but they are freaking nuts $1600-1700 for a week or so rental.

You shouldn't have any problems, like rebelbowtie said just watch the temps, but your not pulling a lot of weight so you should be good to go

An 08 crew cab should have a 6 speed auto correct? If so you should be able to get along just fine. Keep it out of 5th and 6th as needed and keep an eye on your temperatures. The 6L80E has an insanely low 1st gear as it is so even with the tires it shouldn't be too bad if you have to do some climbing.

You can tow in whatever gear you want. The tranny only really builds heat when the converter isnt locked. So if your locked and it doesnt seem like your working the piss out of your motor your fine. I tow in OD on a regular basis as long as the converter is locked. You should be golden with that trailer, probably wont even notice its back there.
Your truck is BA dude!

you can notice a drop in RPM on the tach when the converter locks. sometimes a really tight converter will lock and feel like another gear. but on the stock set up you cant tell. btw where do you go riding? you ever run out at river ranch or triple canopy?
So are there any ill effects to getting a better converter?(like getting worse gas milage or something)?? or is it worth getting one? I ride out in bonita springs(45min away) or out of state usually, Im 2 1/2 hours away from river ranch and have never been but have had tons of invites just no time.
